I purchased a personalized email through GoDaddy. I went into my domain settings to add the txt settings. The email does not seem to work after several hours, and I noticed that now I cannot access my blog. (blog.jaughnbearen.com)..everything is only routing to my site (jaughnbearen.com)…Can i have some help resolving this issue as soon as possible please?

The blog I need help with is blog.jaughnbearen.com.

This is what I was supposed to do.

    Hey there!

When I visit http://blog.jaughnbearen.com/, I am able to see your site without it displaying jaughnbearen.com in the address bar. Could you clear your site’s cache using the instructions below, and let me know how that’s working for you?

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Could you please give me all your MX records for your email setup (as provided by GoDaddy), and I can take a look at your account? It does appear as if you were able to add your TXT record to your domain settings for jaughnbearen.com.

    Thanks so much!

Thanks for taking a look at that. I followed all of the instructions they provided me. Below is the info/instructions they provided me.

    Hi there!

It would help a great deal if you could clarify some issues.

Are you intending to host your domain with us, here at WordPress.com? Or, are you planning to transfer it to GoDaddy?

If you intend to host your domain with us, but host your email (only) with GoDaddy, you’ll need to follow these instructions:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-email/add-godaddy-email/

I’m also curious as to why you’ve changed your domain’s name servers. If you are planning on hosting here at WordPress.com, you need to use our name servers:
    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

If you’re hosting your site and your email at GoDaddy, you may also wish to transfer your domain to GoDaddy:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/

Please let me know precisely how/where you want your domain to work, your site to work, your email to work…and I can be of better service.

    Thanks!

I want to keep my domain with you. I do not plan on transferring.

As far as domain name servers, I never changed any of it myself. I do not even know how to do it. Maybe its settings that needed to be made so that jaughnbearen.com(which i purchased with wordpress, routes to my livebooks portfolio), blog.jaughnbearen.com(purchased through wordpress, routes to my wordpress blog)

I use livebooks for my portfolio, but I purchased my domain name through wordpress since I already had the blog and I wanted to keep my blog.jaughnbearen.com. and use jaughnbearen.com for the livebooks account.

Everything was working fine, until I tried to add the email yesterday. I purchased the email through godaddy because of a sale they had going on and I wanted to have an email personalized to my website name.

my goal is to have blog.jaughnbearen.com, jaughnbearen.com and have a personalized email @jaughnbearen.com

    Hi again!

Thanks for all the details. That clears up your needs. You’ve got a complicated situation because of the way your mapping is configured currently, and because of the way GoDaddy has you setup.

Your nameservers are pointing towards GoDaddy so the TXT records which you’ve entered with us aren’t being seen on the internet right now. You have a couple of options:

    1. You can point your nameservers back towards us so that those changes can be picked up by GoDaddy and then we can point your domain back towards your hosting at GoDaddy in a different way.
    2. You can set up this TXT record at GoDaddy through their interface. Unfortunately I can’t help you with that. However GoDaddy has 24/7 phone and chat support and their representatives should be able to help you out.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

    Hey there,

I’m sure this has been stressful. We’re getting there, now that GoDaddy has given you all the records necessary. I’ve set these up for you, but would like you to check to see that they’re correct. To do so, click below:
    https://jaughnbearen.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

Then select Edit Domain → Edit DNS.

Just make sure that everything I’ve added matches your GoDaddy records precisely. If you need to edit anything, that’s fine. Just make sure you save your adjustments.

Keep in mind that it can take up to 72 hours for the DNS records to fully propagate and your email to begin working.

I’m here, if you have any other questions or issues. Thank you so much.

Hello, it appears to me that it is still not working, and I waited until after 72 hours to be sure. Can you do me a favor and please check that all the settings reflect those provided by go daddy. should all the setting be correct and it still does not work, i will likely have to contact go daddy to complain and/or cancel the service. Can you also recommend me a company whether yourselves or someone else that can provide me with personalized email that will work with your platform? thanks

    Hi again!

Here is the best solution for getting your email up and running with GoDaddy as your host:

    1. Change your domain’s name servers to point back to WordPress.com. This will insure that your email begins to work correctly. Once your name servers are ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, and ns3.wordpress.com, the DNS settings that GoDaddy gave you will begin to work properly.

    2. The problem with this is that your domain won’t point to your GoDaddy site, as it currently does with your name servers pointing to NS11.DOMAINCONTROL.COM and NS12.DOMAINCONTROL.COM. So, to fix this issue, you must purchase a dedicated IP address from GoDaddy. This will be a nominal fee. What it will allow us to do is set an A Record that points your domain to that IP address, “reconnecting” your domain with your GoDaddy site, while still allowing your email to work.

You may want to purchase that dedicated IP address from GoDaddy first, as once we have that, we can reset your records all at the same time.

If you’d like to avoid the fee for a dedicated IP, we can just point your domain towards your site’s current IP address, however that is what is called a shared IP, and can change any time, which would result in your site going down.

Let me know what you think about this solution. We think it’s the easiest and simplest way to set you up, without causing you to move your email service.

Looking forward to hearing from you again. Best to you.

aren’t my name servers pointing the way the are because I am using the domain name for my live books account which has my portfolio? Will changing that affect the routing to that site?

Most of this routing and domain talk is really over my head..

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey there!

Aha. Thanks for that reminder. Your name servers were pointing to GoDaddy, so I had started to believe that that’s where you were hosted.

All right, so here’s what I’ve done:

I have changed your name servers to WordPress.com’s.

I’ve also edited your domain’s A record so it points to Live Books’ server.

I’ve added a CNAME record (www) to point to agency5.livebooks.com.

In doing this, I’ve made sure that your email records will point to GoDaddy’s hosting.

Your domain will also map to your Live Books site.

At the same time, your subdomain will still work with your WordPress.com blog.

It could take up to 3 days for everything to propagate online, but you should be good to go, now.

Take a look, let me know how things are working for you. Please check in with me to let me know if everything is operating as you wish.

    Thank you again!

    Thanks for your help.

SO… the email now works….my website works..but my blog is down…is this temporarily down? or is there something wrong with the settings and routing?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

I’m not seeing your blog as down. When I visit, http://blog.jaughnbearen.com/, I am taken right to the blog.

It’s possible you need to clear your browser’s cache to you can see everything properly. You can do so with these instructions:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Also, as I mentioned it can take a full 72-hours for everything to work properly throughout the internet, so it very well could be a matter of time for you to see things as expected.

Please let me know when it re-appears for you, or if it doesn’t after this window of time, please be in touch.

    Thank you so much!

Hi.. So my website and the email are working, but I still can not access my blog. I did delete the cache, and I tried it from a few different computers. Can you please help me get my blog back up ? thanks

    Hello there.

This has been quite the saga for you, hasn’t it? You’ve been amazingly patient during all this juggling.

Thank you for letting me know about your blog issue. Could you take a look again now? I’ve adjusted one more setting on your domain’s DNS. I think all the dots have been connected now, but would like you to confirm your view of things.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers!
