Need Help restoring old website URL for landing page

    I had installed a plugin called ‘Smart User Slug Hider’ because I wanted to hide my admin email address, which displayed when visiting my website. The URL that I was trying to hide looked something like this: http://www.intellectualcrimescene.com/author/bensonbeke-gmail.com/

    This displayed information was being pulled from my admin user name section from the backend of my website. Moreover, soon after ‘activating’ that plugin I received the following error message: ‘Opps! this page cannot be found’. I quickly ‘deactivated’ and then deleted the plugin to try to fix the issue, but the error message never went away. To work around this issue I installed a ‘301 Redirect’ plugin. This plugin allowed me to redirect that previous url (which was now causing the 404 error message) to another page(menu) on my website. Problem solved! However this is a temporary fix because the root cause of the problem has not yet been addressed. In retrospect I should have ‘backed up’ my website before installing that plugin but unfortunately I did not think to do that, as I was eager to hide my admin email address.

    Hey there, do you want to check in with your host to see if they can help you restore a recent backup? The site you mentioned isn’t hosted here on our services, but I’m guessing your hosting provider can help sort this out.

    Going forward, these forums are primarily for sites that use our free-tier hosting. We’re a little different from the WordPress software itself. This article explains some of the differences.
