Need help setting up new web host

Ok, yes I am super new at this but normally I can find excellent step by step instructions on how to do things but this one is throwing me for a loop.
I have a custom-made header and design waiting for me but in order to obtain it I know I need to switch over to a new host. I’ve found a host (fansite) and they have instructed me to change my DNS domain to one that begins with NS1, NS2, and NS3. I have tried this but it wont’ accept it.
What am I doing wrong? Is there another way I can get this code accepted?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry, you need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently.

If you do not know the difference, see this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .

I am with wordpress.COM not .ORG.

If you are setting up a new web host (where your blog will reside) then your blog will no longer be at wordpress.COM. It will be on that other web host and be using the software from wordpress.ORG. It will be a complete stand-alone system in no way connected to here.

If you are moving your blog to “fansite” then you will have to install wordpress over there, and the place that supports the software you will be using is http://wordpress.ORG/support/ .

Read this sticky not to get a clear idea of the differences between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG blogs.

What you’re talking about is not a mere cosmetic change. In order to use that new design you have to basically abandon your blog here and start one somewhere else in webspace that you rent by the month. You need to install WordPress.org software on the site and do all tech support and maintenance yourself.

    It’s very different from here.

But what about web hosting packages with built-in support for WordPress? If I went with one of the ones recommened by WordPress.com would I still be able to keep my lay out and information etc?

No. You did not read the post. None of the themes here wordpress.com. can be exported to WordPress.ORG. The two run on different software. The blog content and blogroll links can be exported and imported.

Please, please read the post I linked to above. It’s a step by step instructional tutorial I published because we Volunteers are tired ot typing the same stuff over and over and over.

First off, I know of no web host that has a support forum for wordpress.ORG software. WordPress.ORG software is supported at wordpress.ORG.

    To move to fansite hosting:

    1. You have to have a registered domain name if you do not already. Some web hosts offer domain name registration and some do not. You cannot use the URL you have here. You then have to point that new domain name to your web host and wait for 24-72 hours for it to propagate through the nameserver system.

    2. You have to install and configure the wordpress.ORG software on that new host.

    3. You have to export your content from here and import it into your wordpress.ORG installation at your new web host. This will NOT include the theme or any of your widgets. You will have to download and install the theme – or a theme – that is designed for wordpress.ORG software. There is a modularity lite version at http://wordpress.ORG/extend/themes/ or you can find it on the internet.

    4. Many of the widgets that are built into wordpress.COM are NOT in the wordpress.ORG package. You will have to research and find plugins that duplicate those capabilities and then install those plugins into your wordpress.ORG installation.

Once you move everything over and are blogging on your wordpress installation at your web host, you are no longer connected in anyway to wordpress.COM. At that point, all support and questions have to be directed to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ .

And most definitely read the post that timethief references. You are taking a big step here and you need to know what you are in for and decide whether you have the expertise or sense of adventure required to do all the stuff self-hosting a blog requires.

When you make the move the contents ie the blog posts and comments, do get moved over, don’t worry about that. You have to move them yourself via exporting them from here and importing, but they are portable. The themes here aren’t, but then you’ve got a custom theme you want to use anyway.
