Need help structuring home page to navigate to other pages
-
Hi, I’m new to WordPress and this forum. I’ve been able to figure out many of the basics in WordPress and have set up my first blog. Now I want to get to the point where I can structure the home page to navigate to other pages.
I have my categories set and have created a few posts assigning them to categories. I would like to set up a page per category (I think) so that my home page shows an annotated graphic per category such that when it is clicked, it navigates to the posts for that category.
For instance, I have a category called Restaurant Reviews and one called sites we’ve seen. Using these 2 as examples, my homepage would show 2 graphics that I’ve annotated with the Category name. When I click on the Restaurant Reviews pic, it would show me all posts having to do with Restaurant Reviews. I don’t want to see the latest posts on the homepage. Just my header graphic and the individual category graphic/links.
From my research, I think I want to do this with pages, but I’ve also seen indications it may be done with menus with pages (or categories) tied to the menu items??
I’m getting too deep in the weeds and need some help. Hopefully someone from these forums can help. Thanks in advance!

Hello –
I’ll be happy to help. First, you’ll need to connect that domain to WordPress.com directly. There’s 2 options to do this. It looks like it is currently set up with an iframe which is not compatible and not good for SEO.

I guess I’m confused (like I said I’m very new to this). I registered my domain with Dreamhost. I used their tools to configure my blog using WordPress and they host the blog.
What are the ramifications to
1) Connecting my domain to WordPress.com directly?
2) What are the costs associated to do that (I don’t want to lose any money already paid to Dreamhost?
3) If the domain is connected to WordPress.com, will that affect my blog on Dreamhost?
3) You say it’s set up using an “iframe”.
– What is that?
– If that changes, will I have any problems with the blog on Dreamhost? Thanks

gjmontigny – In this situation you’re using the WordPress installation rather than WordPress.com. There are 2 versions of WordPress.
With your current setup you’ll either contact your host for WordPress assistance or visit the community forums at https://wordpress.org/support/
