Need help switching from Joomla to WordPress.

I have a website that someone else created for me using Joomla, with a domain name I purchased on GoDaddy. I created a different website for a client using WordPress.com and like the functionality of WordPress better than Joomla, so want to switch my website to the WordPress platform. I’ve done numerous searches on the web and on WordPress.com trying to understand how to do this, but unfortunately am just not geeky enough to know where to start let alone feel comfortable enough to do this. Help?

Does Joomla provide an export file of the content? If so, see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ I don’t see that WordPress.com has a dedicated importer for Joomla but if you can export your content into one of the other services mentioned there, you should then be able to use their export utility to import.

Hi there!
Unfortunately, there isn’t an easy way to achieve this since the resources I found requires a special plugin that isn’t available on WordPress.com. You might have better luck moving to a WordPress.org blog instead.
A WordPress.org blog allows you to upload your own custom plugins and themes, and gives you full control over your site’s code.

Unfortunately, I do need a bit of hand holding with trying to figure this out. I’ve done a number of Interent searches and, while I’ve found what I think may be the right answer(s), I’m not able to fully grasp what I need to do. I have tried to get help through people I know locally, but the results have been disappointing if not downright discouraging at times. So, druesome, if you would be willing to answer some questions I have, and then possibly walk me through some things if at all possible, I would be most appreciative. Please let me know if you’re open to such dialogue – thank you.
