Need Help To Insert Comment Form

  • Unknown's avatar

Can someone *please* tell me how to insert a Comment Form into my blog? I’ve received e-mail responses to blog posts indicating that people cannot comment below the blog posts and neither can I. I’ve reviewed all tutorials, went to Settings & Discussion, cannot locate the “edit screen” link…I’m beyond frustrated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What does it say under Settings->Discussion?

It has a laundry list of options but nothing that says insert Comment form. It provides options *not* to have this option but nothing to insert it. I’ve tried everything…

The comment form is STANDARD on your blog. If you do not choose who can comment, then nobody can comment. Make a choice about who you allow to comment, tick the box, and hit Save.

I made some choices, basically anyone (per the box). I hit save and visited my blog multiple times — no comment box. Can you see it? I logged in like any reader, scrolled down to my most recent blog post…nothing. I’m trying everything plus after two people e-mailed me directly to say that they couldn’t comment, this is what made me aware that a comment box was not there.

By default every WordPress blog has comments open on all pages and posts. If comment boxes aren’t appearing it’s because you changed the settings.

You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.

You can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

Note: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

Might you be able to tell me which “boxes” should or should not be checked so I can determine whether any settings have been changed, resulting in the elimination of a comment box? I do not recall having changed anything and am continuing to struggle to determine how to insert this. Thanks.

I saw how to add a Comment Box (it’s at the top of the individual blog post), however once added, it automatically puts my e-mail address and name into the form which means anyone wanting to leave a comment would need to backspace to remove my information and insert theirs. Can anyone tell me how to remove this? I tried to remove it from the “code” that appears where the comment box is placed but it remains. Thanks.

You personal information is not displayed to anyone except to you.

Log out of your account then look at your form: it will be blank. If I look at your form my information is automatically filled in. This is how it is supposed to work.

Thank you whomever you are for helping me with this. I did as you said and indeed the form is blank – did not know to do this. Again…many thanks.

You are welcome. It is a question asked fairly often here: most people want to protect their private information so it is disconcerting to see it automatically displayed!
