need help to unmap domain
-
hello,
I own the domain noahdsimons.com through godaddy, it has been mapped to noahdsimons.wordpress.com for the last year. I recently made a squarespace website and I’m trying to connect noahdsimons.com to that site, unsuccessfully.
I’ve made noahdsimons.wordpress.com the primary domain, and connected noahdsimons.com to the squarespace site through the godaddy site, yet it still goes to noahdsimons.wordpress.com. I need to unmap this domain from wordpress, help! Thanks,

Hi @noahdsimons,
I checked the WHOIS for noahdsimons.com. It looks like it’s all in GoDaddy’s control now given that the nameservers point to domaincontrol.com. Those are GoDaddy’s nameservers. This means that the settings you change on your WordPress.com account won’t have any effect because GoDaddy’s DNS is the service trying to connect back to your WordPress.com account.
I’d guess (and this is only a guess!) your GoDaddy DNS settings are trying to load your WordPress.com site through a CNAME record. There’s a fix if that’s something in the realm of possibility:
Try to follow this walkthrough over at Squarespace that will help you specifically getting GoDaddy’s domain set up for Squarespace. It recommends first clearing old DNS entries, which is smart as you switch over and will probably fix this issue.
If that doesn’t work, check back in here or, for a more probably success, reach out to GoDaddy support (Squarespace might help, too, but I think your issue is with how your DNS is set up at GoDaddy).
Good luck!

Hi there,
I see you’ve since removed the domain mapping upgrade from your account as well, but we lost all control over that domain the moment you pointed it to Squarespace instead of at us with GoDaddy.
If the domain still redirects to your WordPress.com site for you, it’s because your browser still thinks that’s where the domain is pointing. If you clear your browser cache the domain should start showing the correct site for you.
