Need help transferring expired domain!
-
Hello everyone!
I really need some help transferring my expired domain. It has private registration, so i can’t get the info I need to give to godaddy for the transfer, which I already paid for on GoDaddy. Since the domain name is expired, I can’t cancel private registration. Can anyone please help me out?
Is there a wordpress support # that I can call?
Thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I believe you will need to renew the domain first, before you can transfer it. (Don’t worry, you’ll get an extra year once it’s transferred to Godaddy.)
If another volunteer/staff member can confirm this, though, please do.

the renewal fee is $106… i can’t afford that. That’s outrageous.
There’s got to be another way. -
The reason it is $106 is because your domain expired. The fee for retrieving an expired domain is $80, plus the charges for the domain itself. This $80 fee is assessed by the domain registrar, Wild West domains, and WordPress.com has no control over it.

It can take 80 days or more for the domain to become available to register through Godaddy, assuming someone else doesn’t register it before you do.
-
but if i wait the 80 days I will be able to reregister it? It won’t be gone forever or anything?
-
If you wait the 80 days, you should be able to re-register it, provided someone else doesn’t beat you to it. Depending on the domain, sometimes “squatters” will wait for the domain to become available, and register it as soon as they can to put ads on it.
However, if you don’t want to pay the $106 to retrieve the domain, this is your only option.

Alright, thank you so much Andrew.
I called godaddy support and they said I can buy a back order for about $20 and that they’ll buy the domain for me as soon as it’s available, which seems like my best option.
Thanks again -
You’re welcome. I’m glad Godaddy has an option for you, even though you’ll need to wait.

Sometimes also the Registrar will put a domain name up for auction and you will need to bid on it – there are also companies that will try and grab a domain name for you when it comes up – but they also cost –
