Need help with domain name change and plan
-
Yes. The domains are separated from each other since they are acting independent from one another. We can help with this once you get to that point.
Thank you. When my new site is built and ready to launch, I will ask about that here. (Probably going to be at least a month).

Please help, I really messed up my new site!
I somehow created a new site with a new domain name like I wanted and it put it in a new account. That is fine as my two blogs need to be separate, but I messed up in providing the email. I accidentally mis-typed and gave an email that does not exist and now it will not let me correct it until I verify the non-existent email.
How do I fix this?Do I have to delete the new site and do it over? (There is no content yet). I’m worried that if I do I will not be able to use the new domain name I want because it will be claimed already and won’t let me use it even though it is mine.
Was I supposed to create a new domain name and site like this or was I supposed to create a new domain name under my old account? I don’t want the two sites to have the same domain name, it would not make sense.

If I do need to start over and not use the new domain name I created, it won’t be a huge issue because now I have two more on my list I can choose from.

If you made a mistake when entering the account email address, a new one can be added from your Account Settings page. You should then receive a confirmation email at the new address.
Do I have to delete the new site and do it over?
We don’t recommend deleting musicmagick.wordpress.com if you want to use that address again — deleting the site will permanently disable this address.

There is nothing wrong with creating a new site in another account. Doing so means it is completely separate from itsaboutthemusicblog.wordpress.com.
Do you want to manage musicmagick.wordpress.com through the other account? Or would you rather keep this site in the same account as itsaboutthemusicblog.wordpress.com (anonsmithe)?

When I go into my account settings for the new site, it does not let me change the email address. It keeps telling me I have to verify the the bad one first. So right now the new site is basically dead because without the email address and such I can not post anything, etc.
I can manage the new site separately unless it means I can not copy some stuff from Itsaboutthemusic to musicmagick. If it does make it difficult or impossible to copy some stuff from my other site, then we will have to find a way to move them under the same account. Although, that may make it impossible to have two sites as primary at the same time temporarily, which could be a problem.
I’m wondering if a solution is to create another fresh domain/site and use the right info this time and just leave musicmagick.wordpress.com alone so that if I ever wanted to use it someday I could? Just thinking and I could be totally in left field.

Hi there,

If you go to https://wordpress.com/me/account you should be able to enter the correct email address regardless of whether the current one is verified or not.

You can copy content between sites with the simple copy and paste function or by using the import/export function:

It will not let me, it keeps saying that I can not update anything until I verify the non-existent email address and then it disables the save button. Why are we going round and round on this? I can’t copy the message that shows up in a red bar when I try to change the email address in my account. So I can’t show you.
I think my only option is to delete the new site and start over. I know I will not be able to use the domain name anymore, but I can’t anyway, it is locked up and won’t even let me write a post until the email issues is fixed. Obviously, this issue can not be fixed.
-
Ok, I successfully copied the message, here is what I keep getting when I try to change my email for the new site: “The e-mail address of your WordPress.com account is not verified. Please verify it first before updating this setting.”
Then it does not let do anything.

@musicmagick, we are aware that people sometimes typo their email address, and this is why we allow people to change the address without verifying the incorrect one.
That said, if you’re trying to change the address to the same one that’s on the @anonsmithe account, you may be running into different trouble.
With your permission, we can transfer the new site to the anonsmithe user. It will still be separate from the original site. May we proceed?

Ah, I was first trying to change it to a new email address and keep getting the same message. Then I tried indeed to just change it to the address that is on the anonsmithe account and got the same thing again.
Yes, I think it would help to just transfer the new site to my anonsmithe user account since it will still be separate. Then I can work on building it. Might even be easier to copy and paste some stuff from the soon to be old site too by doing that.
Yes, please go ahead and transfer the new site.
I get the feeling I should have just gone into my account of anonsmithe and added the new domain name and build the new site from there, then switch it to active and primary when ready. If I ever want to do another one, that is the way I will do it next time. (I may do one soon because I think I came up with an even better domain name for the new site and I can leave musicmagick waiting in the wings).
Thank you

Yes, please go ahead and transfer the new site.
Can you please log back into the other account to make that request, so it’s coming from the user who currently owns the site?

Definitely.
But we’ll get you squared away yet.

Ok, here I am in the other account – Please go ahead and do the transfer.
Thank you

Done. And if you’d like to keep the musicmagick username, too, just change the email address to some other address you have access to. Let us know if you need help making that happen.
Cheers :)

Thank you Supernovia!
Now that the musicmagick site has been moved to the anonsmithe account, I don’t think I really need to keep the user name or that account, just the domain name.Yes, I think I better just use the same email address for everything, safer that way.
I would like to change my user name “anonsmithe” into my real name if I can and it doesn’t mess things up, otherwise I’ll keep things as they is.
-
You can change your username. Just note you will not be able to change it back, and you can’t change it to another name that has ever been used:
I hope that helps. Shall we go ahead and close out this long thread? We can start another for new issues if you’d like.

Hi Supernovia,
I’m not worried about changing the user name back, but the second part makes no sense. I have not used my real name here before to my knowledge, so that means I will not be able to?Yes, go ahead and close this thread out.
