Need help with domain situation

I was asked to create a new website for a church-based campground. Their current site is centralpawccc.org. I am most used to wordpress so I created a site at http://www.centralpawccc.wordpress.com to show the campground what I could do with wordpress. They like it and want to move forward. I figured the easiest way for now to get people to the new site was to have the other host set up a forwarder that redirected people to the wordpress site (the host doesn’t support wordpress) and we’d handle switching things over at a later time. The host (e-zekiel) just emailed me and said they ‘can transfer the domain into wordpress’s hands or initiate an account change which would place it in your hands.’ How does this work? I’m mostly referring to the first part of their comment where a domain is transferred into wordpress’s hands. How quickly can this be set up? What do you need to make it happen? The campground people want the new site up ASAP.

You would need to upgrade to a Personal, Premium or Business plan in order to use a custom domain with your WordPress.com site.
It’s not possible to transfer the domain name to WordPress. What you’ll need to do instead is keep the domain name with your current registrar and map the domain to your WordPress.com site.

OK. I found where I can upgrade it to the personal plan. Once I make that payment, how do I go about getting e-zekiel to switch things over? What do you need to make the transition as quick and painless as possible?

It’s not possible to transfer the domain name to WordPress. What you’ll need to do instead is keep the domain name with your current registrar and map the domain to your WordPress.com site.

Hi there,
The doc @ellybiddle gave you above explains this, but specifically what you need to do on your domain provider’s end is ask them to update the domain’s name servers to the following:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM
Within a few hours of doing that the domain will start showing your WordPress.com site instead, but be aware that this will also take the current site offline unless your hosting provider can still let you access it at a free/staging URL.
The mapping upgrade completes the connection from this end.
