Need help with exporting my website to WordPress
-
Hi All,
So I have created my website using 1&1 IONOS Website editor, the site is up and running I own the domain etc, however I have found out (I am completely new to this) about existence of SEO plug ins!! And I thought that it would be nice to install it for my website since I struggle with SEO big time.
I just finished a call to 1&1 Customer Service and they said it is not possible to export my website to WordPress because I used ‘drag&drop editor’. I spent ages doing it (it’s my first website) and would not like to go through this again.
Can anyone help please? Are they right in saying that the website cannot be moved from 1&1 to WordPress because I used the basic ‘Drag&Drop’ editor?Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

Edit:
Sorry the last line is incorrect, I was trying to export flooddoctor.co.uk into wordpress and not flooddoctorcouk.wordpress.com -
Hi there,
In order to export a website, the website needs to be built using a platform that can generate an export file that’s compatible with other platforms. If the drag & drop builder you used doesn’t have that option, then Ionos support is correct, that you won’t be able to export it and import it to another system.
The exception would be if the platform you’re importing to has an importer that scrapes your existing site for content, essentially just automatically copy-pasting everything for you, but we don’t have any such import option on WordPress.com.
So the only way to migrate your content from that site to a new site on WordPress.com would be to manually copy-paste everything into new posts and pages on our end.

Hi Kokkieh,
Thanks for your reply and explanation.
It’s a shame, if I’d knew this at the time I would create my website here, rather than through IONOS website builder.
I guess I will have to re-do it from the scratch or try copying and pasting as you said.
One more question though, I would like my current website to stay live until the website which I will create using WordPress will be ready to go live. I would like to keep my original domain though.
How do I have to go about it? Can I create a new free domain here and then once the site is ready export my domain from IONOS and then copy everything into my existing domain?
Sorry if this sound like a stupid questions, I am walking in the dark here. You would struggle to find less knowledgeable person then I am when it comes to this sort of stuff.
Thanks for your help so far!

You already have created the free site https://flooddoctorcouk.wordpress.com/
You can copy paste content from your existing site to your wordpress.com site for as long as you wish. When you are ready you can upgrade your free site to a paid plan to transfer or map your custom domain to it.
PS: Your new site just needs launching. Make make sure that after clicking the “Launch site” button that you leave blank the field at the top that says “Enter a name or keyword”. Instead just click on “skip purchase” at the bottom right next to your new free address. -

Yes, you can do that :) You may create a site with a free WordPress.com subdomain and once you’re ready, you’ll be able to either map or transfer your domain here. To do that, when you’re purchasing the plan and are prompted to choose a domain, type one with .wordpress.com extension.
You’ll find full instructions here:

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all of your input.
I’m bit busy at the moment but will try to do it over the weekend; hopefully, I won’t mess anything up lol:)
One more question though, I tried to copy & paste some of the elements of my website to the WordPress website editor by clicking right mouse button and clicking “copy”, but it wouldn’t let me paste it in the WP editor? Am I doing it wrong?
Thanks Again for all your help!

Good Morning –
I tried to copy & paste some of the elements of my website to the WordPress website editor by clicking right mouse button and clicking “copy”, but it wouldn’t let me paste it in the WP editor? Am I doing it wrong?
The past option should work just like any other word editing system. Does it work to paste in a note or word document?
Other things to try are clearing your browser cache:
And testing a different browser to see if it works.
Write back to us here if none of that helps and I will send an email to collect the text privately and test it on my end.
