Need help with getting a domain name

    I asked for some help yesterday about getting a domain name. The person I spoke with yesterday was very helpful and I’m very grateful for their help but they talked a lot about ‘mapping’ which I don’t understand. I just have 4 quick questions:

    1. I was just wondering if someone could tell me in basic English (not blogging jargon!) how to select or deselect ‘auto renew’ (once I’ve bought my domain name) so I can control whether or not I pay for the domain to stay next year?

    2. If my blog becomes catherineonfilms.com, will friends be redirected to my blog with the old address (because I’ve spread the word on Facebook that my website is catherineonfilms.wordpress.com)?

    3. Will I lose my already existing followers if I change to a domain name?

    4. I’m in the UK so deal in £s not $s! Will I be charged extra when paying by my bank or WordPress because the currency needs to be converted?

    1) Once you have an Upgrade, go to Dashboard >> Store >> My Upgrades >> you will see all your upgrades there for the account you are logged in as, one of the options on each upgrade is to enable or disable Auto Renew

    2) Yes, all traffic to catherineonfilms.wordpress.com will be automatically sent to catherineonfilms.com, – like magic with domain mapping, all the old URL’s to catherineonfilms.wordpress.com will still work forever – just like putting a second address on your house, however visitors will see catherineonfilms.com in their browser address

    3) No – your followers will come right along and not know you have changed names unless they look in the browser bar, so maybe a Post about your new name might make the feel a bit more at ease,

    4) You should not be charged extra, between PayPal (they handle payments here) and your credit card you will be charged dollars in the U.S. and the conversion will be done to British Sterling when the money is actually charged to you – again like magic :)
