Need help with Gravatar and also with my WordPress blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    To,
    WordPress support team

    Can somebody help me out?

    1) My article on the Internet of Things (IoT) is on

    http://electronicsofthings.com/expert-opinion/internet-of-things-improving-the-value-chain/

As you can see that the website http://electronicsofthings.com is itself WordPress optimised.

Now, when you hover over the link – author name – NILESH KAKADE – my profile – http://electronicsofthings.com/author/nilesh-kakade/ comes up.

Is there any way wherein I can write the name in full as ‘nileshkakade’ instead of nilesh-kakade.

How do I make that change?

One of my friends who is also a WordPress developer said that this is coming from JetPack plugin with Gravatar option enabled. He suggested that I need to change in the Gravatar account: http://en.gravatar.com/nileshkakade — which I did. But it still persists with the earlier name.

Or do I need to get into the website of that particular site and make the changes?

Can you please help guide/solve it. It would be nice to let me know how to optimise the same.

    2) Also, I have a WordPress blog http://www.nileshkakade.wordpress.com

It is about my Travelogue which I had written years back.

Now, I want to enhance the look and feel of the website. Have recently just added the Twitter plugin to the site.

See, I am a writer and will blog on technology, arts and political scenario and at times even movie reviews.

So, if I am going to write another travelogue, where should I ideally put it. Should just start with ‘NEW POST’ or any specific category. How will that particular blog entry come up?

Also, having thought of doing the same, I liked the way these two blogs (for example) which use WordPress very much have customised the ‘drop down’ features
    http://acoupletravelers.com
    http://discoveringice.com

    HOME|ABOUT|CONTACT|TRAVELS|PHOTOGRAPHY|LIFESTYLE|DESIGN

In that way I too want it. Is it possible here, how do I go about it?

    Do help!

    Regards,

    Nilesh Kakade

  • Hello Nilesh!

I’m going to reply to your second query in a second!

I’d like to let you know first that it would be better to post your first question in the WordPress.ORG forum.
In fact, http://electronicsofthings.com looks like a self-hosted site powered by the WordPress.org software, but this forum is for blogs hosted here on WordPress.com!
The two WordPress versions are different, and therefore also some functionality aspects may be different.
Consequently, the two WordPress have separate forums as well. Please post your question at the WordPress.org forum: https://wordpress.org/support/. However I’d suggest you to clear your browser cache first to see if your account gets updated, then post the issue if it’s not fixed yet ;)
If you don’t have a username at that forum, you’ll need to register before posting.

As far as your second question is concerned, you can start a new blog post and assign it to a certain category and/or tag. Every time you create a new category and tag, the system automatically generates an archive page that gathers all the posts labeled under that specific category/tag.

You can manage, create and customise categories and tags directly from your post editor, or going to Dashboard>Posts>Categories and Dashboard>Posts>Tag.

Here are the recap pages that explain everything about categories: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/
    and tags: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/tags/.
This is an article that explains the difference between a category and a tag that you may find useful as well: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/.

You can place those archive pages on your menu, just like the websites you mentioned as examples, by creating a custom menu. This way, every time a reader wants to read only posts that fall in that particular category, there’re all gathered together :)

To create a Custom Menu, you can follow the steps listed here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/.

I hope everything is clear! Please let me know if you have any doubts!
If you get stuck at any step, just let me know as well and I’ll be glad to help. Thanks!
