Need help with homepage content

Hi, I have a question about how to set up my homepage with WordPress. My website is http://digitalremixrevolution.wordpress.com/ and is hosted by WordPress. I was wondering if it is possible for the homepage to show just one entry (the most recent one posted) and act as sort of a “featured entry” page? If so, could someone please explain how this can be done? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance!

Hi.. You can set the number of posts which you want to show on your homepage by going to [Dashboard] ->[Settings] ->[Reading] and assign [Show at most [1] posts].
And yes. airodyssey is a true genius and very helpful.

Just to be clear: Wpgaurav’s solution will apply not just to the homepage but everywhere: categories, archives (by year, by month, etc.), search results, etc. There will only be one post per page there.

I almost forgot, digitalremixrevolution : If you only want one post to appear on the front page, but several more on the other pages, or if you want to set up some “showcased” posts, perhaps The Morning After would be an interesting choice. It is a bit more complicated to handle than your current theme, though:

I have seen several bogs (and news sites) the last Post is left either completely in full or the read more only shortens things by a bit – then the following Posts use read more fairly aggressively to shorten up the page and make it easy for people to page down a bit but still see what has been done earlier.
I use the Read More on all of my Posts, only have a paragraph or so showing – make the front page load quicker and lets first time visitors page down and see other content they might like to read.

The problem with setting only one post to display on the home page is that only one post will display on category and archive pages as well.
You might try a theme such as Chateau, which displays the first post as full sized (or can be truncated with the more tag), and other posts as custom excerpts (if “concise” option on). You can make your custom excerpts so they display only the title.

Bueno has a widget with makes one of your posts a “featured post” and will list posts tagged the same below the featured post. And if you choose, the posts below can be displayed as excerpts.
