Need Help with Template Editor

  I need help locating the template editor on my dashboard. I am taking a tutorial on editing my themes and the first step is editing the template fiels in the dashboard template editor window. I for some reason can’t find this or any help with how to find this. Please Help!!!!

  What I am looking for is under the appearance tab on the left side of the dashboard. In the tutorial there is an ‘editor’ option, but it isn’t on my dashboard.
