Need help with the basics
-
I have a domain that I bought from Domain.com, and a theme that I bought for my website that I had for school. But now that I have graduated, I no longer have that website and need to build myself a new site. Where do I start?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @malayne33,
I think a great first place to start should be asking yourself, what kind of website are you looking to build and why? Personal, blog, portfolio, e-commerce, community, photo, business, etc.
WordPress.com can definitely get you started with any of those, but with a more specific goal in mind as to what you’d like to achieve with your website, the path to get up and running would be a lot easier to discover.
I have a domain that I bought from Domain.com
If you would like to use this domain with your WordPress.com account, you can do so with domain mapping. This will require an upgraded WordPress.com plan.

Themes that are not from the WordPress.com theme directory cannot be used/uploaded unless you have a WordPress.com Business Plan.

Thanks for the response! It is meant to be a portfolio webpage. I already know how I want it to look, as I had to build one before.
I guess the part that is really stumping me is that I bought this theme off of the WordPress directory for my last page, and am wondering why I would have to buy it again to not pay premium/or pay premium to use my already paid for theme.
It seems like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place for no reason.
I hope I explained that so it made sense. Thanks for all your help!

I also wasn’t sure if my response answered your initial question, but I got you now.
wondering why I would have to buy it again to not pay premium/or pay premium to use my already paid for theme.
If the WordPress account you are currently using is the original account you used to buy your theme, then there should be no need to pay for it again.
If this isn’t the original account, then you need to login to the account you used when you initially bought that theme and you should have access to it. A theme you purchase is available to use for one blog only.
You will have the option to choose which one of your sites you want the theme for. If you would like to use the same theme across multiple blogs, you’ll have to purchase the theme for each blog.

But now that I have graduated, I no longer have that website
In that case, you would need to purchase the theme again.
When you purchase a Premium theme, it is available for the lifetime of that blog. Sometimes, we may decide to retire a Premium theme because it’s dated from a visual or functionality standpoint. If that happens, you can continue to use the theme for as long as you like, but if you switch to another theme, you can’t change back.
