Need help with the blog layout

hi, I’m a beginner in wordpress I need help on how to create categories in wordpress.. I created 5 categories but it’s not showing up on the blog, is it because I’m using the free plan? kindly please help me ASAP

https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/i am not sure how the menu appears in that theme, but you can add your categories (some of them or all of them) to a custom menu:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/You can also include a Category widget in your sidebar:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/Note that a category will not usually show in your widget until you have a post attached to it.
