Need help with widgets

  • Unknown's avatar

I just opened a new WordPress 2.9.2 on my new hosting site at Domains.com. I used the Fantastico feature. I am so disappointed. When I got into my dashboard and selected widgets, it didn’nt have hardly any of the new widgets. I had more with a wordpress.com account. When I looked into plugin’s, I got the same message- I didn’t need it a current edition of WordPress. How do I add widgets to my new dashboard? I want the Twitter widget and the Image widget to name a few. Please help.

    1. You’re in the wrong forum. You need to ask at http://wordpress.org/support/
    2. You will find all the widgets you need in the Plugin section. Simply Add New.

    Hello there,
The wordpress.ORG software comes with the basic widgets. Those that are specially made for wordpress.COM are not included and cannot be acquired from wordpress.COM for your wordpress.ORG blog.

The number and variety of plugins available for wordpress.ORG installs is HUGE compared to the widget selection for wordpress.COM so I’m assuming you just don’t know where to look over there.
Please bookmark this link for future use > Extend – Plugins

    Image widget > http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=Image+widget&sort=
    Twitter – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=twitter+widget&sort=

From now on please post to the wordpress.org support forum when you need help with your wordpress.org blog.
    Happy blogging!

OMG this whole site is so buggy. Why does the left panel not have all the choices for editing it did when I started? And I can’t believe how long it is taking me to set this stuff up. Widgets aren’t working right. the spacing upon publishing is crowded and awkward. This is as difficult to use as Dreamweaver without the instructions. I’m a fast learner and I’m pretty great with high end complicated Adobe programs, but geeze. I’m beginning to second guess myself… is it really worth it?

Have you gone to the top right hand corner of your blog Admin side and clicked “screen options” and set up full accessibility on your blog? If not please do so.

Please provide the following details so we can attempt to locate what is happening on your blog.

    1. your browser
    2. your browser version
    3. have you tried these troubleshooting techniques? if not then please do so now. > http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/
    3. your role (Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor)
    4. and a very good description of the exact problem:

I don’t have an option to set up full accessibility under screen options. You realize those options change depending upon which page you are editing? Did you mean for me to start from a particular place?

I can send you a screen shot of the sreen options I am seeing if you need it.

    Answers to your Qs:
    1. Firefox for for editing, Opera, Safari and Camino for checking the outcome
    2. 3.5.5 for Firefox, 9.10 for Opera, 4.0.4 for Safari and 2.0.1 for Camino
    3. I did not check for browser issues to troubleshoot this problem, I did look through this forum and the help videos.
    3. (again) I’m the Admin and only person attached to this account
    4. I did: clicked on something (don’t remember exactly… it happened yesterday), I saw: a different amount of left hand navigation buttons for editing than was there when I started this process. I expected: the same navigation buttons to be available to me as long as I was signed in and editing.

    The button choices changed from:
Dashboard, Upgrade, Posts, Media, Links, Pages, Comments, Ratings, Polls, Appearance, Users, Tools, Settings

    to:
    Dashboard, Tools, Settings (approx)

This has happened more than once. I am able to get the original nav menu back…but don’t recall how. I don’t believe this is a browser issue. It happens when I click on something within the site. I have not logged out. If it happens again I will pay more attention closely to what I clicked on and document it for you.

Other than this problem, which is just an annoyance, is there a way to create some room between where the widgets lie on the page? Their layout is confusing when published. They are too close to each other. I have tried a few different layout skins.

You’re probably looking at your Global Dashboard, rather than the dashboard for the individual blog. To confirm: go to the admin bar and on the far left, click to get the dropdown menu and go to Global Dashboard. Does that look like what you’re talking about?

You can get to your actual blog dashboard by clicking on Dashboard to the right of the first drop-down.

Thank you! That was a very simple answer! I figured I was clicking something without realizing. I did not think I had a browser issue.
