Need idiot proof instructions on how to use webmaster tools
-
I am having great difficulty establishing my blog’s identity so that search engines recognize it. I am encountering two problems: 1) I printed out the instructions on how to do it, but cannot even get to the point of verifying the blog in trying to get Google to recognize it; 2) there is conflict between the documentation and online instructions, and neither work. Can you help me?

Please make sure you are using the instructions in this guide. Where do you exactly get stuck? please explain the steps in detail.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

On the instructions printed out from the Webmaster tools page, the wheels fall off on the third step: Choose alternative Method tab.
The instructions under alternative method direct me to cut and paste Google’s identification indicator (not sure about the right technology – it’s gibberish to those of us who only speak English).
However, the Google identifier can not be posted in the coding as instructed. The example given is to paste the Google identifier between the two <head> commands. But the paste command does not execute.
And that is where I’m stuck.
Only six more steps to go.

By the bye, kardotin, those are the instructions that I’m using.
I tried Yahoo’s instructions to install a meta tag. While imminently easier to follow those instructions, I end up at the same impasse.
For whatever reason, I’m not allowed to paste the tag into the coding for the home page of my blog.

K – got it. Solution was repeatedly hitting the verify button until desired outcome was achieved. Insane, So, now my question is, is repeating the same action until a different outcome is achieved insane?

It can take most of the search engines up to an hour to see the new verification tags, unfortunately we have no control over that.
If you ever have to do that again, I recommend waiting an hour before verifying next time.
