  need to increase recent posts widget recent posts widget keeps resetting to 50 no matter what I put in

  That’s the maximum. Note that even that number may lead to crashing the older browser versions of your guests.

  P.S. I am visually challenged and you have increased the font size on your front page to a size that would repel me as a reader. The theme you use has appropriate fonts sizes. https://hemingwayrewrittendemo.wordpress.com/ I suggest that you do not alter them.
