Need my Domain Refunded.

    Hi there,

The site in question is lunacarrickbrenner.ca (lunacarrickbrenner.wordpress.com).

On November 17th, I purchased a WordPress Premium subscription. I was unsatisfied with the features available to me, as well as several other things, and decided to refund my subscription today, November 19th.

Upon refunding, I opted to keep my domain under the impression I would still be able to use it for my WordPress site (as I am a student being tasked to make a portfolio site on WordPress and must complete said assignment on this platform), however I then quickly realized that a paid subscription is required to use said domain. I then promptly cancelled and removed my domain, as WordPress help said that domains cancelled within 96 hours of registration are eligible for a refund.

Emailing support has proven to be fully useless, as I keep being directed to https://wordpress.com/support/refunds/ which has literally no information on what I’m asking.

To reiterate: I cancelled WordPress Premium but kept my domain for $16.95. Instead of an $84.75 refund, this made it a $67.80 refund. I then realized I can do NOTHING with my domain, and cancelled the domain. I am requesting the full refund of $84.75, rather than just the $67.80.

Can anyone help? Or at least help me figure out how to proceed?

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No
    Correct account: Yes

    Hi there!

I understand what you want, and I can refund the domain registration fee for you. However, I’d like to understand more about your site needs and how you want to use this domain. Please consider these two options:

    1. With a WordPress.com plan, you can set a custom domain as the primary address. Without a WordPress.com plan, you still retain the ownership of the domain. So, if you visit the domain, it will load your WordPress.com site. It just won’t show up on the URL bar since it can’t be set as the primary address.
    2. If you want to host your site elsewhere anyway, you can use your domain with an external host even though it’s registered with us. The process is fairly straightforward, and we can help you with that.

If you’d like to do either of the above, I can restore the domain for you. Would you mind telling me how you’d like to proceed?

If you don’t want to use the domain at all, knowing that the domain may no longer be available in the future, I can go ahead and issue a refund of the domain registration fee that was kept.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

    Hi there,

I would not like to use the domain at all, I definitely understand that it may no logner be available in the future. Please refund it for me.

    Thank you very much!

  • Thanks for the additional info!

I have issued a refund for the remaining amount of your purchase. You can see a receipt confirming this refund here:  https://wordpress.com/me/billing

You can expect to see the funds in your account, but it can take a billing cycle or two depending on your institution. I can confirm the refund was processed on our end, but you may also wish to contact your credit card company to confirm.
