need new IP address to point to WordPress site from third party domain

Hi there, I’m working on transferring a client’s site over to WordPress – originally it was hosted and built on Dynadot. She wants to keep the site domain with Dynadot still, however they only accept the A type of IP address transfer. I’ve done a fair amount of research on this and from what I can tell WordPress customer support can provide me with some IP addresses, however I’m aware they’re subject to change. Since I do not have a paid subscription with wordpress.com I’m asking on this platform.

If this doesn’t work my backup plan would be to transfer the domain from Dynadot over to Siteground, but that would cost an extra $18 that I’d like to avoid.

I don’t have a site linked to this WordPress.com account

    Hi there:

A third option would be to purchase a yearly plan here – we include the first year’s domain registration for free which can be used to transfer that domain to WordPress.com without any extra charges this year.

Since your client would need a paid plan in order to use the domain as their primary URL here at WordPress.com, it would be worthwhile.

If you need the WordPress.com A Record, you can see the process to get those IP addresses here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/#connecting-with-a-records

NOTE: this is only for sites hosted here at WordPress.com. If you’re using the WordPress software on your own hosting, you would need to contact your hosting provider in order to get the IP addresses you need to update the domain A Record.

Let us know if you have any questions.
