Need some general help on starting my website
-
In particular, I want to host a comic, and as such I have heard of comicpress. I don’t know how to add it or if I really even need it. All I’m looking to do is have the main page have some sort of site entrance image, with a custom header containing links to the rest of the site (archives, link to most recent page, maybe a bio page), then have navigation between comics. I feel like comicpress would make this easier, but I have no clue how to add it.

For clarity note that we cannot upload themes here at all and we cannot edit themes or templates. The only themes we can use on free hosted blogs are found in your dashboard here > Appearance > Themes
You can select a theme and click “preview” and see how it looks on your blog. If you like it click “activate”Volunteers answer technical support questions. There are over 120 themes and more being added continually. Neither Staff nor Volunteers will be searching out themes that meet the criteria for new members. The Themes Showcase here is set up so everyone can do their own searching :) http://theme.wordpress.com/ The site is a live demo site and there are feature filters that can be used to narrow the search.
Best wishes with your selection. :)I can also recommend a comprehensive tutorial. The Learn WordPress.com tutorial is divided into progressive levels and presented as a series: http://learn.wordpress.com/

Note that comicpress is not available here. WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
WordPress.com is a hosted blog service. You do not have to download software, pay for hosting or manage a web server. WordPress.com does not permit uploading themes or plugins. WordPress.org is free software. You can install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ -
If you are skilled at CSS editing then there are two free themes, Sandbox and Toolbox designed to allow maximum flexibility for CSS editing and creating new “skins”. Toolbox is more modern and includes a lot of support for CSS3 and HTML5, so it is really only limited by your skills and knowledge.
