Need subscribers moved to self-hosted blog (cutover July 25th)
-
Hello WordPress.com folks,
We are moving promega.wordpress.com to a self-hosted WordPress.org blog that will be located at http://www.promegaconnections.com. That domain is not up and running yet, but will be on the 25th of this month when we do our cutover. If you guys could please move our subscribers over to that blog, we would greatly appreciate it.
If our self-hosted blog has to be active and the domain publicly accessible before you can do the move, please advise and I can resubmit a request after the 25th (or if you can just wait to do it then, that would be awesome, too).
Thanks in advance,
CarolineThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You cannot move the subscribers until the new site is running and the Jetpack plugin is installed and configured.
Please make sure you have the Jetpack plugin installed on your new site, and that it is connected to the same WordPress.com account as your WordPress.com blog.
Once you have completed the above steps, repost the request, and we can tag it for a Staff member to complete the move for you.

Andrew,
Aren’t the subscribers part of a backup of your site? If not, how would I back up the subscribers?

The subscribers are not part of the backup of your site. Only your content (posts, pages, etc.) is part of that backup.
As I said, once you have connected your new site to WordPress.com via Jetpack, an administrator here can transfer them for you.

Andrew,
Thanks. How would I email everyone in my subscriber base?
I am looking to move to away from WP to joomla.

You cannot email everyone in your subscriber list. Those people have subscribed to your posts, nothing more.
You could create a blog post, once you move, suggesting that users subscribe again with whatever subscription method you use on your new site.

Since WordPress.com is a free service, the subscriber function is limited to prevent users from being data-mined or spammed. If you need more granular control over your subscribers, or need access to their personal data (such as email address, etc) you’re always going to want to use a self-hosted solution (whether it’s WordPress.org or something else).

Hello all,
You can download a list of your e-mail subscribers by visiting the Site Stats page within your dashboard, then click on “Blog” under followers near the bottom-right. Then choose “E-Mail Subscribers” and use the “Download All as CSV” link.
We do not allow the e-mail addresses of WordPress.com followers to be downloaded as a privacy concern.
As mentioned elsewhere, if moving from a WordPress.com site to a self-hosted WordPress.org install, staff can migrate all subscribers over once the new site is up, accessible, and with JetPack installed and activated with the same account as your WordPress.com site.
Hope that helps!

kraftbj: thanks for the correction. I wasn’t aware that you could download a CSV of email subscribers.

Thanks much for the reply. I will repost this request once we get Jetpack installed and activated and the site is up.
