need the old text index for photos

I used to be able to type in an index word and only a few of my ten years of photos/figures would appear. Now I have to find the photo in a past blog, save the date, then run through every image I’ve ever uploaded by date until that that date comes up after maybe dozens to hundreds of scroll button hits.

As far as I understand, you are reusing pictures you added in the past, and you are having issues finding the correct image. Is that correct?
It sounds like you were using the WP-admin to do that and, since we unified the navigation, you are redirected to the newer view for the Media Library. If that’s the case, try enabling the Dashboard Appearance as explained here:https://wordpress.com/support/account-settings/#dashboard-appearance.
This setting will replace your dashboard pages with more advanced WP-Admin equivalents when possible.
