Back when we had a big forest fire, I was covering it on my blog, and for the name that the forest service assigned to the two different blazes, I was #1 above all the news agencies, partly because the division manager saw my blog and sent me a link to an almost unknown gov’t website, so I had a lot of information others did not. I had a lot of hits from the local and state news agencies, but they never gave me any props.

Sebastian Junger’s FIRE was a great book. And not JUST because he, himself, is dead hot. But it totally didn’t hurt when I paid full price for the hardcover.

That’s a shame they didn’t give you the links and credit. That is one thing blogs do right. A friend of mine just broke the whole Sarah Palin grandma/mother scandal wide open on her blog, with pictures, but it’s a non-linear tumblr with no archives, so good luck getting hits to that thing. If I blog about it and link to her, I will push her right off the front page of Google, just because of WP.com vs Tumblr googlejuice.
