To add a new blog, go to https://wordpress.com/my-blogs/

To add a custom domain to an existing WordPress.com site (so your address is yourblog.com rather than yourblog.wordpress.com) you will need to register a domain and then map it to your WordPress.com site.

For more information on how to do that, see http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/

    Hello
    Thank you.
What I meant was, I want to retain my present blog (which caters to varied topics). Call this blog 1.
I also want to add another blog 2 dedicated to my novel.

So if I want both blogs under one roof, do I have to convert my blog 1 into a custom domain first; and then add blog 2?
or do I add blog 2 and then convert both to custom domain together?

I think you can do – your-site.com with domain mapping

Then do novel.your-site.com – by mapping a sub domain

You should be able to do it here

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    Great! Thank you.
    1. Will I lose out on wordpress support forums if I convert to custom domain or am I still open to asking for help?

    2. also, When I publicize my novel, I would want traffic to be directed to novel sub-domain directly. That is where I will have all posts, reviews, book cover downloads, book trailers etc.
In that case, should I give main domain url or sub-domain url on business cards?
    3. Will followers of main domain automatically get added as followers of sub-domain?

    1) the nature and hosting of the blog doesn’t change. It’s like you have a house, and you just build another door. It’s still the same house, but you can get to it two ways.

    2) I would suggest forgetting a subdomain and creating an entirely new site, but if you want to do a subdomain, I suggest you put the URL you want to publicize on your cards. For me, I’d put the main URL and make a very large, clearly-defined link to the novel subdomain. I am assuming the website encompasses your whole business of which the novel is a subset. If the novel is your whole business, put the subdomain on it.

    3) No. If it’s a separate blog, rather than just a separate category, they will have to subscribe to it separately.

    Thank you very much.

I am just exploring all possibilities. In that case, if I make a page for ‘blogs’ (which covers all my posts of blog 1) and add another page ‘novel’, will that save me from collecting new followers all over again?
I read that I can add more than one page and display page names at top of my theme screen.

If I were you I would use categories and do this; http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/

That way your original URL gets a big SEO boost, so you and your novel show up better in search engines. And you don’t split the novel away from the site, but you make all the novel-related stuff very easy to find.

That is exactly what I wanted! You are a life-saver!
