Need to change from custom domain to free wordpress domain but..

  Need to change from custom domain to free wordpress domain as i no longer have hosting with that domain, but i followed the instructions and to change my domain back to the wordpress free one i have to be able to access Dashboard > Store > Domains, however without hosting i cannot access my blog, let alone dashboard.

  Can anyone tell me another way to change my domain back to the free one so i can get access to my content.

  Was your blog self-hosted or mapped from a free wordpress.com blog? If the latter, what is the free wordpress.com blog you used before you registered the custom domain?

  When I click on your username I get this message:

  topgiftideasgirlfriend.wordpress.com doesn’t exist

  Do you want to register topgiftideasgirlfriend.wordpress.com?

  So, your username is linked to a non-existant URL.

  The name of the free wordpress blog i was using is topgiftideasgirlfriend.wordpress.com. I started out on a free wordpress then hosted my site on hostgator with the domain topgiftideasgirlfriend.com then i cancelled the package. which left me with like you say a non existent URL but can’t change it back to the free one. Do you know what i can do.

  The free one shouldn’t have become available again if you’ve already registered it. I’ll tag this thread for staff to follow up. Please subscribe to the thread and be patient while waiting for a response.

  In my “Settings” panel it says that the web address is http://topgiftideasgirlfriend.wordpress.com but when i type that into my url it says i have to register it. I followed the steps to change your domain back in the support articles and to be able to change my domain i have to have access to dashboard>store>my domain but because all pages are suspended it is impossible. Thank you for your help i will be patient and hope someone can fix this for me

  Hi there,

  The only blog linked to your WordPress.com account is a self-hosted blog linked via Jetpack. Since the blog at topgiftideasgirlfriend.com was self-hosted with HostGator, you’ll need to get in touch with HostGator to try to recover the blog and get access to its dashboard. (Only blogs hosted here at WordPress.com have a free WordPress.com address along with their custom domain name.)
