Need to contact (email) WordPress

    Hi,

I recently switched to a new theme and am having an issue with the new posts I’ve recently completed. For the most recent post, the home-page is simply listing the wording that goes along with the picture and NOT also including the picture. Yes, you can click on the post’s title to then see the picture along with the text. However, if I were to delete the most recent post (for Friday,) what you would then see is that the Thursday-post would then be the most recent post AND at least one of the many pics I uploaded for Thursday would then be on the home-page along with the post’s title. …and seeing a picture, I’m NOT referring to the little thumbnail-things that you can currently see that accompany all of my past posts. I’m talking about a properly sized pic. A large pic. Yes, I’ve uploaded all of my pics in the same way but for whatever reason, am having an issue with Friday’s picture showing up on my home page. I also tested out whether or not my Saturday post would have an issue and it too, does not put the pic from that day on the home page. (I have not made my Saturday post “live” yet, so you will not see it.)

I hope I’ve been detailed enough to make sense to you. Also, if you could provide me info as to how to get into touch with WordPress staff re: this issue, I would GREATLY appreciate it. I cannot find their “contact form” to email them directly. (However, if you know how to solve this, then I don’t need to contact them.)

Thank you, in advance, for your time and assistance!

    This image is HUGE http://dmello365.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/3-16-13-upload-0072.jpg
    1,936px × 2,592px (scaled to 408px × 547px)
Have you tried deleting it from your post and the Media Library?
Creating a re-sized image of an appropriate size to fit into the space you intend to use it in, renaming it and uploading it?
That is what I would do.

    Hi smkdmello,

    Thank you for reaching out!

The theme checks for a featured image and displays that, if it finds one. You can find out more about how to set a featured image here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/#setting-a-featured-image

If the post doesn’t have a featured image, it looks for an embedded gallery. If it finds an embedded gallery it will display the first image from that gallery. Friday’s post has neither a featured image nor an embedded gallery, hence no big image. Thursday’s post has an embedded gallery, which is why a big image was displayed.

I hope I could clear things up! :)

    Best,
    Konstantin

Thank you again, Timethief, for your help and for tagging this thread for staff assistance. (How did you do that? (…as in, tag them?!)) I have REALLY appreciated all of your help, as well as your quick responses! THANK YOU!!

    Konstantin,
Thanks for your email. I really appreciate it. I actually read through the article about setting a featured image last night but my “Screen Options” aren’t displaying as the article says it should. I just re-read it again right now and again attempted to set a feature image, but just as was the case last night, it’s not working. This is what is listed in my drop-down “Screen Options” box under the “Show on Screen” heading: Right Now; Recent Comments; Your Stuff; What’s Hot; Quick Press; Recent Drafts; Stats. This area, right here under the “Show on Screen” heading in the Screen Options drop-down box is where it should say “Featured Image” with a little checkbox for me to check, right? …cuz this is where the article says it should be. Am I only going to get that checkbox if I upgrade and start paying for the blog?!?! Also, I speculated that maybe some sort of glitch occurred when I switched to this theme from the last one that I had and so I chose a new theme, switched to it, and then switched back to this one but no such luck –> I still don’t have that “Featured Image” with the checkbox!

Thank you, in advance, for your help with this! I really appreciate it!

PS – Timethief, you have a great site about blogging tips! I just checked it out and will bookmark it to come back and go through it more thoroughly sometime soon! …baby is crying…gotta go!

    Konstantin –

One other quick thing that I forgot to add to my initial note to you above: the picture for my most recent post DOES show up on my home page when I look at my site on my i-Phone. I’m not sure how this is possible since I haven’t set that pic (or any pics, for that matter) as a featured image due to the reason that I go into detail about above. Anyway, just wanted to quickly throw that out there. Don’t know if that might help solve the problem w/ my site…

    Thanks –
    Sarah

    Hi smkdmello,

To set a featured image, in your left hand menu go to Posts -> All Posts. There, select the post you want to edit, either by clicking on the post title or by hovering over the entry and clicking on Edit.
Once you are, please try again to follow the directions from the support document I posted earlier. There is no upgrade necessary for this feature.

Per default, all WordPress.com sites have a dedicated mobile theme enabled for all requests from mobile devices. You can learn more about them here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/

    Best,
    Konstantin

Yes! It’s fixed! Thank you SO MUCH! I realize now that I was accessing the Screen Options drop-down from my dashboard rather than from inside the actual post. Sorry about that. I understand now.

Also and for future reference, how do I tag you (or other staff members) on threads like how timethief tagged you on this? Or are only certain people able to tag staff members? Thanks again.

You type modlook into the sidebar when Volunteers cannot answer your questions. In this case I did know the answers I just didn’t understand you is all.

  • Unknown's avatar

PS – most questions in the forum are answered by non staff members – and answered quite quickly and accurately – also us unpaid unworthy folks often ask the background questions that we know the staff will need to know the answers to before the staff is involved – so that the staff can answer the question quicker – many times on the first attempt – much more efficient for everyone

    @auxclass
    Yo, what’s this “unworthy” crappola?
“Unpaid” yes but “unworthy” of what?
    Can that self-deprecating language please.

We Volunteers are worthy of great respect because without us this forum would have been full of very unhappy bloggers still waiting for help. We earned the excellent reputation this peer support forum has today and there’s no doubt about that.

The increase in Staff has been a recent thing. Many of us Volunteers have worked in these trenches for many years longer than most Staff have been on Staff. When member do become Staff their profiles may reflect years of WordPress association but not to answering questions here on this peer support forum. Ha!

Sorry @TT – forgot the smiley thing – but I have noticed that some people posting in the forum do look down on us volunteers here and seem to insist that an accurate answer can only come from an official staff member

Was trying to tease the OP a bit – not my day to do that I guess – did not mean to insult you – sorry

And yes being able to provide accurate answers in a support forum does take practice and not everyone is good at doing support – I have one advantage that some new people in the forum don’t have – I have a long history in several jobs where I did customer support – in some cases my errors could have killed people or cost the customer 10’s of thousands of dollars an hour – I do remember some cases in my short time in the forum where we needed to go around after a new staff person and clean things up a bit – the last wave of new staff seem to be doing a good job

Okay I understand where you were coming from now.

Yes, I notice that too. When it happens and the correct answer has already been provided by a Volunteer I LOL and slap on a modlook tag up in the sidebar and have Staff waste thier time by having to say it again Sam.

  • Unknown's avatar

I have noticed that staff-blorbo has referred to answers above by volunteer’s as being the correct information or adding to what has been already given – others have done the same – then there are the ones that argue with everyone after the correct answer has been given

So true. The Support Staff here rock!
