Need to contact wp support – problem can't be solved otherwise

Thank you. I get that it’s the default editor, but that doesn’t explain depriving us of the option to use the “classic” one. You should restore that switch.

I’ve spent my life working with software people, so it isn’t news that all y’all just love “migrating” us (your victims) to your newest idea. To that, I say:

    DON’T MIGRATE ME, BRO!

There are millions of cranky old farts just like me out there who like nothing more than just having our environment LEFT ALONE. You should make the user’s choice of editor global, so that (as in this case) the default editor for the new blog is the same one as the old one. If and when I want to migrate – in or out – let me control it without having to bother you.

  • @jl162 the classic editor has been maintained since the block editor went live, and will be for a while longer, as announced. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be maintained forever, nor would it necessarily be supported forever here. Given that, we’ve made decisions here to nudge people toward using blocks, though, as you can see, for now you have access to classic if needed.

One option you can use if you want ultimate control, is to install and maintain your own copy of the free software. Of course you’d need your own domains and hosting and handle your own tech issues, but then you could even use an older version indefinitely (or as long as your host will allow you) and write your own security patches. I wouldn’t recommend it but that’s a great way to avoid having updates imposed on you.
