Need to create a splashpage
-
Until the site is ready to be fully built, I need to create a simple splash page. Logo with image, some short copy and an email link. No widgets, no pages… Is there a way to do this in wordpress.com? Perhaps a theme?
Many thanks

Hey there Holly! You can indeed create a static front page that contains your header/logo, some text, and a link. You can virtually everything else.
This can be done with almost any theme, however, as it sounds as if you’re hoping to keep things simple, I’ll offer a few suggestions:

http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/manifest/

Thanks so much.

Robin:
Thank you for your response. I have used the static page and here are my questions… I hope you are able to help:Link to blog:
http://metamarkers1.wordpress.com1) How to delete the navigation bar from the top?
2) How to make copy NOT look like a post with date stamp?Thank you!!!

Ohh…. And is there a way to alter the layout so the scrolling does not cover the image… but simply scrolls down like a “normal” web page?
Thank you.

Hello Holly!!
I have used the static page
You are actually set up with your front page displaying blog posts. It’s not set as a static page. This doesn’t matter much, as long as you’re happy with the appearance. If you choose to make the page static, you will create a Page (called Home, or something of the sort) and add all the text you’d like. Then click Appearance → Customize in your site’s Dashboard. Click Front Page, and opt for a static front page. You will choose Home to be your static front page.
If you’re not exactly certain about the difference between posts and pages, this should help:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/1) How to delete the navigation bar from the top?
2) How to make copy NOT look like a post with date stamp?Because those are built-in design elements, you would need the Custom Design upgrade to remove those elements from your site:
en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
If this is something you choose to do, I can help you with the CSS code you’ll need to remove those items. And is there a way to alter the layout so the scrolling does not cover the image… but simply scrolls down like a “normal” web page?
There isn’t. As you can see front the site’s theme, Book Lite, the header is created to behave that way:
http://booklitedemo.wordpress.com/If you’d like to look at a few other simple themes that don’t have the same type of scroll, you might look at Kelly, Untitled,

http://hemingwayrewrittendemo.wordpress.com/full-width-page/
http://kellydemo.wordpress.com/
http://motifdemo.wordpress.com/page-templates/full-width-page/You can hide comments, likes, widgets, etc on all these templates.
Looking forward to hearing what you decide, and if I can help in any way. Thanks!
