Need to delete account to use the email address for another account!

So I’m having some trouble with a wordpress site. After researching, I understand that you can delete sites within your account but not the account itself – the advice is to leave it unused without any personal information in there. BUT I need to delete the account (let’s call it Account 1) as I need to use the email address (let’s call it XXX) on a different wordpress account I have (Account 2). The reason I’d like to assign XXX to Account 2 is because I am deleting the old email address connected to this account (Account 2). Hopefully this makes sense!
How can I go about this?! Obviously when I try to change the email address in Account 2 to XXX, it says the email already exists. HELP!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Register a throwaway email address (Yahoo or Gmail, for example) and use it to free up your email address currently in use with WordPress.com Account 1.
Log out of Account 2, then log into Account 1. Go to Account Settings (https://wordpress.com/me/account) and replace the email listed with the throwaway one. When you click the Save Account Settings button, there’ll be a message saying that there’s a pending change and to check your inbox for confirmation. Check the inbox of the throwaway email address and click the confirmation link in order to confirm the email address change.
After that’s done, log out of Account 1 and then log into Account 2. Go to Account Settings, change your email address (XXX from your example), save changes, check your email, and click the confirmation link.
