Need to delete Categories and Blogroll

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry to ask this, but, I am helping a friend set up a blog, and, she likes the way I have mine set up. That is – in pages instead of categories. I am trying to get the pages to display on the right side, so they can go to that page to view the topics. And, I cannot remember how I did that. I have gone into every setting trying to figure it out, have spent about an hour (trying not to ask on the forum), but, have had no luck. Can someone please help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You simply need to install the Pages widget and that will prrvide the access you are looking for. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/pages-widget/

However, I think that deleting Categories is not the way to go at all. Categories and Tags we assign to our posts are index terms. Using them means that after publication our posts are displayed under those Categories and Tags in the wordpress.com global tagging pages which can bring traffic to our posts. More to the point is that if you want traffic from those using search engines to locate content on specific topics then removing Categories and Tags which are index terms that are used to retrieve and display your posts in the SERPs (search engine page results) is like cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Removing the Links widget from your sidebar will eliminate the display of blogs you have lnked to here > Dashboard > Links without eliminating the linkage. If you wish to eliminate the linkage and Google juice flow then you can delete the links on that page. However, before you do that please consider that the reason we do link to other blogs and do display the blogs we link to is provide additional resources that enhance our readers’ knowledge of the topical matter within the niche our blogs are in.

OK, I think I am following this.
I do have links on my blog, but, I have it set up as a page.
I set mine up with pages, because I don’t want everything I put on there to roll down the page and disappear.
I’m sure your way is great, but, I never understood the category thing, so, I used the pages. :)
    Thanks for your help.
I will go try this, and, hopefully it will fix it the way I want it, and, I won’t have to come back and ask more questions.
Thanks again, have a great day. :)

I also use a Links page rather than the widget. You’re welcome and best wishes with your blogging. :)
