Need to delete free wordpress site

    Hi,

    Initially, I had a free site through WordPress and later changed to my current paid site.

    I thought when I changed to the paid site, that the free version of the site would be deleted or taken down. I have recently discovered that the free version is still active.

    My question is can you please assist with taking down the free version. It has been years since I have accessed the free version of my site and no longer know any of my log in details for it.

    I can provide the url for the website.

    It sounds like the free version of the site you are referring to was created using a different set of login credentials than your new, paid version. Is that correct?

    If so, you will need to recover your account in order to delete the free version of the site. Instructions for how to recover a WordPress.com account can be found here: https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/

    Once you recover your account, you will need to go log in and delete the site yourself. This article can guide you through how to delete your free site: https://wordpress.com/support/delete-site/

    Hi Emma,

    Can you share the URL of the other site?

    If it’s hosted with us under a different account, you’ll need to regain access to the other account first, as @jamkmak explained above.

    I have been able to gain access to the account. It uses the same email address as my paid site through wordpress.org I am now seeking reassurance that when I permanently delete the free version there will have no impact on my blog/website I want to keep? (Hope that makes sense).

    Deleting your WordPress.com site won’t have any effect on your self-hosted WordPress site, no. Even if two sites are in the same WordPress.com username account, they’re completely separate entities, and deleting one won’t affect the other.

    And in this case the sites are at two completely different hosting providers. You just happen to be using the same email address for your WordPress.com account and your other site’s admin account, but the two sites aren’t linked to each other in any way :)
