Need to import a Blogger from FTP to WordPress

  • Unknown's avatar

I team-blog on a Blogger site that is published via FTP to the domain name:

    http://www.holfordwatch.info

We’d like to import it from there to WordPress -but the magic import button doesn’t do FTP and reports that there are no posts for the blog.

How can we import the existing published posts to WordPress?

Can you switch the publishing back to Blogger then do the import from there?

Hey Mark. While you;re waiting for a response, think you can answer my question? I think it’s the least you can do considering all the time I’ve put in here.

Thanks, I’ve just tried this but it wouldn’t pull the previous posts back. I’ve having a problem with a dodgy connection so I will try this suggestion again – thank you.

drmike – the faq states 1 link per blog. If that was to be the one link, a link which would be the same as an amazon link in many ways then why should it not be allowed? I had every intention of following up with that blogger which I did. An abundance of .info links resulted in that blog being removed.

I did not close the thread to stop discussion about that. I stopped it because of that last post – I do not see why any blogger should have to answer such a grilling.

But the faq does say “One discreet link to Amazon per blog is okay, but if the primary purpose of the blog is to drive traffic to affiliate programs that’s not allowed.” and being reasonable people we look at what people are linking to and why before we do anything to the blog. If we were solid on it only being Amazon then Barnes & Noble would be out as would other organisations.
I have tried to say this before – we can’t set everything in stone because it just would not work.

No – many cups of tea and some family rows later, it seems that we can’t FTP the files back to Blogger because we don’t know the path names etc. for Blogger. Any ideas?

Is there anyway to get your FTP’ed blog onto blogger.com and then import it psychosomartyr?

    Hi Trent,

Our problem is we don’t know the file path on Blogger to FTP the posts back to. It’s not a case of uploading them to say myblogname.blogspot.com (where myblogname is the actual blog name). If anyone has an idea what this path name is, that would be great.

    From the blogger importer page:

    Import Blogger

Howdy! This importer allows you to import posts and comments from your Blogger account into your WordPress blog.

To use this importer, you must have a Google account, an upgraded (New, was Beta) blog, and it must be on blogspot or a custom domain (not FTP).

The first thing you need to do is tell Blogger to let WordPress access your account. You will be sent back here after providing authorization.

You can’t have the FTP blog as the importer pulls from the blogger system and doesn’t FTP up to wordpress.com.

We are trying to FTP back into Blogger so that we can use the WP importer but we can’t FTP back because there is no way of finding out your path name on Blogger (it’s not myblogname.blogspot.com).

We’ve tried all the workarounds like shifting back to blogspot publishing but that doesn’t help us FTP anything back.

I’ve seen a suggestion that someone installed WP on their server and then pulled their posts using an RSS feed but it looks like this would lose the comments?

    Thank you

Several laptop crashes later – this is sorted.

    Thank you.

    How did you sort it?
