Need to import content from a site backup
-
I am taking over a site from another company and they sent me a zip folder backup of the website. I need to get that imported to a new live website, but I cannot get this backup imported with any built in option or third party importer tool.

Hey there @office0c25d8482e, a zip file could be just about anything; we’ll want to get a backup in an expected format if we can.
If the site is still live and was made in WordPress, I would recommend this method for your case, given you’re taking over as the new site administrator. Please ask them to add you as an administrator to the site using your account’s email address, then they (or you) can make an export using All in One:
If you wish to import an entire WordPress site, including plugins, themes, and users, the All-in-One WP Migration plugin can help you achieve that. Follow the steps in this guide to import an exact copy of your website to WordPress.com. Prerequisites This option is suitable for self-hosted WordPress sites if you have already tried the recommended Import Everything and Move to WordPress.comOur import tools will accept that format.
If the site was built in WordPress and is now only available as a .zip, it is possible to unzip it, figure out where the files are, use SFTP to move files to the right folders, and then import the data using MySQL. But it’s quite a bit more fiddly and technical than the options above, so please let us know if you can get the All in One Migration file instead. Thanks!
