Need to know how to format A records

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Recently I mapped my domain purchased from wordpress to my blogger website. I have made the necessary DNS changes for this purpose and all is working fine when my full domain is typed in (www.notesbynicola.com) However, when you leave off the www. it takes readers to my wordpress site instead of my new blogger one which is obviously not what I want.

I was told this could be fixed by adding blogger’s A records to my DNS settings, however I can’t work out how to format them correctly and keep getting error messages saying that what I have put in my DNS settings is not a known format.

The A records I need to add are:
    @ 216.239.32.21
    @ 216.239.34.21
    @ 216.239.36.21
    @ 216.239.38.21

How they are above are exactly how I put them in my DNS settings and the way that is bringing up the error messages.

If someone could please write exactly how they should be formatted so that I can just copy and paste the text into my DNS manager, that would be fantastic. Or if someone from wordpress support could simply add the correctly formatted A records to my settings for me, that would be even better.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi there,

Not to worry, as it can be a few minutes or hours until a domain change like that is updated on the internet. To be safe, I visited your site, and your domain appears to be working properly. Here is a screenshot of what I see at your domain:

To explain, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain change is updated world-wide. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors” or a blank white screen.

Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records. Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.

If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours has passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies:

If that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache:

Please let me know if you have any more questions.
