Need to point the contact form to a different email address

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently created a new blog Maravilla Make-Up. I wanted to be able to edit both my blogs (for 2 different businesses) under one account. Easier! However, when creating the new contact form for Maravilla, it points to the email address for Urban Eclectic Jewelry. I tried to add a new user (sending the invite 3x to the email addy associated with that one), I accepted the invite each time, but the new user Maravilla Make-Up never shows up. I don’t want all my postings to show posted by Urban Eclectic on the Maravilla site. And I want the contact form to point to the Maravilla email address. Is this possible or do I have to create a whole new user account from scratch? Thanks!
    Tricia

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there, Tricia,

I can help you with this!

Can you give me two pieces of information:

    1. The link to that page with your contact form.
    2. The username and email address where you want your contact form to be sent.

    Thanks so much!

    Hey there!

    Thanks for this information.

If you want to manage both sites with the same user name, you won’t want to create another WordPress.com account.

Is it all right with you that you manage both sites by logging into your account: urbaneclecticjewelry?

This means that when you create posts, or if you comment on other sites, regardless of where you are, urbaneclecticjewelry will be the name and profile that appears.

First, let me know what you want to do about that, and then I can help further.

If you’d prefer, you can have two separate accounts, with two separate email addresses, and manage the sites in that manner.

    Let me know! Cheers :)

Ok, one last question before I decide that. Can I change my username to just be Tricia Espinoza? Then it wouldn’t matter where I posted because that name would work in either. If I’d have to maintain urbaneclecticjewelry, then that won’t work having wedding postings that way. Thanks.

    Hi!

The username triciaespinoza is actually available. So, you should be able to change your username to that name if you would like. That would change the username you use to login at WordPress.com.

Alternatively, you can just set Tricia Espinoza as your Display Name which is how your username will appear publicly on posts and pages. You can read a bit more about the difference here:

    Change Your Username

Your Display Name will replace your username in the byline of posts and pages. So, if you left your username as urbaneclecticjewelry but changed your display name to Tricia Espinoza, the byline would read “By Tricia Espinoza.” The same thing would happen with comment sections. I hope that helps to clarify!

Let me know if you need anything else or if you want some additional clarification before changing your username or display name.

Hi, not sure if you read the prior posts for this thread? My end goal is to be able to manage both blogs that I have using only one user if possible. I don’t want my posts on my Maravilla Make Up blog to show written by Urban Eclectic Jewelry. As I understood yesterday since that’s my username and I am currently managing both blogs with it, all my posts will say that author name regardless of which blog I’m in. So I think changing my username to my actual name will cure that.

But my original issue was that I need the contact form on the Maravilla Make-Up blog to point to the e-mail address associated with that business ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). How can I fix that?

    Thanks.

    Hi!

As I understood yesterday since that’s my username and I am currently managing both blogs with it, all my posts will say that author name regardless of which blog I’m in. So I think changing my username to my actual name will cure that.

This really boils down to the username/display name difference. Your username at WordPress.com is mainly used for administrative purposes. Visitors to your site will rarely see it. You’ll see it when you login to WordPress.com and when you post here to the forums.

The user-facing version of your username (referred to as the Display Name) is currently set as Tricia. This is what any visitor would see when they read one of your comments. So, they’ll see Tricia and not urbaneclecticjewelry. You’ll also see Tricia here as the author of your posts:

In my previous response, I was saying that we could adjust your display name (what readers will see) without having to change your username (the name you use to login). However, if you would like, you can change your username as described here:

    Change Your Username

As I mentioned, triciaespinoza is available if you’d like to use that!

ut my original issue was that I need the contact form on the Maravilla Make-Up blog to point to the e-mail address associated with that business ((email visible only to moderators and staff)). How can I fix that?

Yep! You can do that. First, start on this page:

    https://maravillamakeup.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=467&action=edit

You should see some text starting with this:

    [contact-form][contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='1'/]

Change the first portion of the shortcode to the following:

    [contact-form to='Your_Email_Here']

So, it would start like this:

    [contact-form to='Your_Email_Here'][contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='1'/]

Just insert your email under “Your Email Here”. Can you give that a try?

This is what shows on my current contact page

    [contact-form][contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='1'/][contact-field label='Email' type='email' required='1'/][contact-field label='Wedding Date' type='text'/][contact-field label='Message' type='textarea' required='1'/][/contact-form]

Perfect – You’ll just need to replace it with the following (making sure to update your email address where it reads “Your_Email_Here”). Can you give that a try?

    [contact-form to='Your_Email_Here'][contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='1'/][contact-field label='Email' type='email' required='1'/][contact-field label='Wedding Date' type='text'/][contact-field label='Message' type='textarea' required='1'/][/contact-form]

Sorry for the confusion – previously, I was only referencing the first part of the contact form (not the entire code).

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for being patient with me :) I’m trying to follow your instructions. This is what I now put …

    [contact-form = to '(email visible only to moderators and staff)'][contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='1'/][contact-field label='Email' type='email' required='1'/][contact-field label='Wedding Date' type='text'/][contact-field label='Message' type='textarea' required='1'/][/contact-form]

You can see where my e-mail address is, however the e-mails are still going to the other address (email visible only to moderators and staff).

Sorry if I’m being a dumb-ass somewhere and just not able to do this …. Help!! :) Can you maybe just correct the above and I’ll copy/paste that and be out of your hair??

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

No worries – I went ahead and made some corrections directly in the page. Can you give this another try and let me know if it’s still not working correctly?

You rock! Thank you!!! Works perfectly.
