Need to prevent malicious editing of comments

    At the moment a blogger can take my comment such as “people have a right to be free of contact with dogs in public spaces with respect to attacks, allergies or personal choice” and can edit it to say “dogs should be compulsory in all schools and all children should have to have contact with dogs.”

    Can’t you see that is wrong that they can do that? And if I protest they just do the same to that comment. It not only infringes my right to have my message in the form I expressed it, it also gets used to invite bullying and appear to “convert” someone.

    Apart from engaging in a blog war where I post each instance myself it appears no action is taken.

    I’ve been told by wordpress daily post that “bloggers need content control”. They have it. They can post the comment or not. That’s total control. Being able to misrepresent the comments they receive is neither necessary nor appropriate. What will wordpress do when defamatory comments are posted and the author is not clear because it is an edited comment?

    Frankly this is the biggest deterrent to using wordpress that I’ve found.

    Hi there,

    I understand your concern about bloggers editing your comments. However, as mentioned in our guide for managing comments, blog owners have full control to approve, delete, or edit comments left on their blogs.

    If you’re concerned about being misrepresented by having your comments edited, I’d suggest not commenting directly on the blogs where you’re afraid that will happen. Instead, you can use your own blog to create commentary — either by writing a blog post in response to one you read on another blog, or by reblogging the other blog’s post and adding your comments to the reblogged post. That way, your comments are contained on your own blog where you have full control over how they appear.
