Need to redirect traffic from old wordpress blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I created my new domain in 2011 and posted a credit card to pay for redirecting traffic to the new site. In fall of 2014, the redirecting stopped as the CC I had on file had expired and I didn’t think about updating with new expiration date.

I have tried and tried to find someone to help me give wordpress the new CC expire date and keep hitting walls.

I have forgotten my old password for the old blog so I can’t sign-in and make the correction.

Any help that works is appreciated.

    (The old blog is cheesemonger.wordpress.com)

ALL I want to do is get traffic redirected so my hits are correct…and ads etc. are same on both sites.

    Thx.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

There are a few ways you could renew the upgrade on cheesemonger.wordpress.com, but all methods would require having access to the account that owns that site. Have you tried entering the email address associated with the account here?

    Change or Reset Your Password

The old blog, cheesemonger.wordpress.com and my new website, marcellathecheesemonger.com use the same email address which means when I try to do as you suggest, I only get the opportunity to change the new site password…

This is very frustrating; seems like a simple matter but I can’t seem to get it done.

The site you mention (marcellathecheesemonger.com) is actually a self-hosted site. There are effectively two “profiles” at play:

    1. Your self-hosted site profile and email address. This is completely separate from WordPress.com.

    2. Your WordPress.com profile. Your self-hosted site is affiliated with your marcellathecheesemonger account.

The site you’re trying to redirect (cheesemonger.wordpress.com) is not affiliated with marcellathecheesemonger (the account connected with your self-hosted site and that you’re writing from currently) in any way.

In order to help you setup the redirect, we need to verify ownership of the site in question (cheesemonger.wordpress.com). To do that, you’ll need to write in from the WordPress.com account associated with that site. Do you remember the email address or login you used when you created this other user account at WordPress.com?

Jeremy – thanks for the help.

The email address for both accounts is the same:

(email visible only to moderators and staff).

As mentioned, the credit card I used expired in 2014 and I got a new one – same number and info all the same – now expires in 2017.

Not sure what else I need to do to confirm both accounts are owned by me.

Again, thanks for the assistance. Hopefully we can get it fixed.

I’m afraid that is not correct. Just to clarify, there are two WordPress.com accounts – marcellathecheesemonger and a previous account you owned. The email addresses on those accounts are different. It isn’t possible to set the same email on multiple accounts at WordPress.com. It’s entirely possible that you created a WordPress.org account on your self-hosted site with the previous account username and same email. However, this is separate from WordPress.com.

To recap, cheesemonger.wordpress.com is owned under a different WordPress.com account with a different email address. In order to redirect traffic from that address, you’ll need to login under the other account you have at WordPress.com and submit the request from there. Do you remember any other email addresses you may have used with this other account?

First of all, thanks for your patience…

I also have (email visible only to moderators and staff) which is active and I have access to it.

A previous email (that I remember) was (email visible only to moderators and staff). If that’s the correct email, I can’t access it as I deleted it long ago.

Not sure why this is so complicated, but again, really appreciate your assistance… hopefully we can get there…

    Hi @marcellathecheesemonger,

Unfortunately, I cannot confirm which email address was used for the other account. I realize this is a frustrating process, but these are steps we have in place to protect our users’ privacy.

Our best option is to go through the Account Recovery process:

    Recover Your Account

Since you’re not sure of the email address used on the account, we’ll require a few additional details to confirm ownership. One of which is the Transaction ID generated by PayPal for the previous upgrade purchase on the site. Could you use the steps here to retrieve the transaction ID?

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal-transaction-id/

Then, provide that information in the form here:

    https://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery

That way, we’ll be able to provide access to your account!

I did not use paypal, I used my debit card – that is why there is a problem. Between the first time I set-up the re-direct, the card expired and a new card was issued with a new expiration date.

Had wordpress contacted me in the fall of 2014 when you tried to charge me, none of this would have happened.

I hate to be rude, but it’s like you didn’t even read the original problem and just keep throwing roadblocks in my way… very frustrating…

I called my bank and got transaction numbers for the last wordpress transaction from September 2013.

When I use your form to confirm that I own the accounts in question, all it wants to do is reset my password for my current account – not the old blogs.

I got the info you want but still can’t get my issue resolved.

I promise I understand the underlying issue – redirecting traffic from cheesemonger.wordpress.com. However, you cannot redirect a site that you don’t own. That site is currently not owned or affiliated in any way with the account you’re writing from – marcellathecheesemonger. Therefore, I cannot help you redirect the site without first confirming ownership of the site.

I did not use paypal, I used my debit card – that is why there is a problem.

We use PayPal as the payment processor behind all of our transactions even those made with credit cards. While you may have used your credit card, you were also assigned a unique transaction ID for this purchase.

I don’t believe this transaction number is going to be the same as your PayPal transaction number. In either case, I’m going to reach out via private email!
