Need to remove someone no longer with the organization
-
I need to remove someone with admin privileges that is no longer with the organization. When I try to delete them on My Site -> Manage -> People, it gives an error. There is a warning by their name that says they have not confirmed their identity. Is this what is stopping me from deleting them. How do I work around this?

Hi MacmanX,
Our site is playingandlearningtogether.com and the user is @charlenegagnon. Charlene is no longer involved with the website. Let me know if you need any more details.
Thanks,

Hi Ronan,
You cannot remove them because they are the owner of that site. This means that they created that site. They first need to transfer ownership to you and only then you’ll be able to remove them. Instructions on how to do that can be found here:

Hi,
Thanks for the help. The previous owner has relinquished the role. However, now we have lost our domain! They didn’t want to be charged for the last payment and revoked the payment. I have paid the $20 fee for this but we have been dropped to the free plan and have lost our playingandlearningtogether domain. Can you verify that if we go back on the paid plan that our domain ownership will be restored? It seems unfair to be punished in this way over a mixup in site ownership. -
I have paid the $20 fee for this
That’s just the charge back fee. The domain still needs to be paid for, and unfortunately the domain owner is the one who can take care of that or transfer domain and site ownership to you. Are you able to work with them on that?
-
I don’t think so. They are no longer involved with the organization. As far as I know, they have logged in and transferred ownership.
Is there a timeframe for when the domain expires? It would be really unfortunate and make us reconsider continuing with WP hosting if we lose our domain because of this. It was not made clear that the initial owner would be so key to the process. Surely there is something you can do on the admin side.

They have not logged in and transferred ownership, or you would be able to pay for the domain and plan.
Are you able to contact them?
-
Hi,
I have repeatedly contacted them but they seem unable to perform the transfer. They are not technically adept. Is there another means of organizing this? I.e. by email, etc? Please help as we are a charity providing support to parents with autistic kids. We need every means possible to communicate with them during the COVID-19 crisis.

Please send an email to
help (at) wordpress (dot) comfrom the email address on the account which owns the site, explaining the situation, and we’ll see if there’s anything we can do for you. -
Hi again,
Unfortunately, the original person who owns the site is unable or unwilling to help us out. Could it be from another registered admin of the site?
Thanks for your help
-
We can only restore an expired or cancelled domain at the request of the account that used to own it. That’s not our policy, but a regulation made by ICANN, the organisation that regulates all domain names on the web. So there is really nothing we can do here unless the original owner contacts us themselves.
I understand that this is frustrating and that it’s important for you to keep the domain for your organisation, but @charlenegagnon registered that domain as an individual, in their own name, using their personal contact information, so they are the owner of the domain, not your organisation, and unless they contact us to restore the domain and then transfer it to another admin on the site, there’s nothing we can do from our end.

Hi,
Good news! CharleneGagnon has emailed you to transfer the ownership. Hopefully you can process this soon and we can restore our website. Do you have a timeframe for when this will be resolved?
Thanks,
