need to repurchase cancelled domain name

  I purchased a domain name registration and mapping for ccieforthewin.com, then cancelled it once I figured out that wordpress.com won’t allow me to use plugins and other customizations I want without paying extra. I intended to pick up the domain using a web host and quickly found that wordpress.com’s registrar doesn’t release the domains after cancellation. While I find this practice to be incredibly shady and disappointing, I have no option but to try and re-purchase the domain with you guys and then just point the name servers at my host. I’d like to buy the registration only, and not the mapping. Please let me know if I can still re-purchase this domain for the registration cost of $5. Thank you.

  So not only does wordpress.com engage in domain tasting, they also practice false-advertising! yay! In case anyone is interested, I’m including the email that was sent to me below. This is worse than the Network Solutions debacle of a few years ago:

  Hi there,

  Please note that when you cancel a domain (not just with us, but in general) the registrar will determine when to release it – sometimes it can take months. Since your domain is canceled it’s getting ready to be released, but I have no idea of knowing when. It could be within a few days, weeks, or even months. This is the procedure with any company that sells domains. But please note when the domain is released it is fair game. Anyone who decides to pick it up will be the new owner of the domain. So, if you don’t want to register the domain with us, it would be best to check on the domain everyday to see when it is released and try to purchase it before anyone else.

  However, if you don’t want to do that, there is a chance that I may be able to bring the domain back and “un-cancel” it by contacting our registrar. This would make us your registrar, but you can always host it elsewhere by updating the nameservers. Please note that the domain price is $18 (without private registration), not $5. We only put the $5 there in case there are people who already registered their domain elsewhere and just want to map it to their WordPress.com site (which would be $13). If you would like me to try and un-cancel the domain please submit the payment for $18 for the domain here:
