Need to retrieve expired domain
-
Our payment lapsed and I need to retrieve our site
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
The domain is registered elsewhere, and does not appear to be expired: https://whois.domaintools.com/ewidenver.org
But, your site’s Business Plan (which connected the domain to your site) did expire on June 13 when it wasn’t renewed. We sent several email warnings both before and shortly after it expired.
You can purchase a new Business Plan for your site at https://wordpress.com/plans
-
Yes I finally saw the email replies from you all. We obviously don’t check our member email enough.
Sorry.
I see that Business Plan (which connected the domain to your site) did expire on June 13 when it wasn’t renewed.
There is a link that was sent with this reply. I have forwarded the email to our President so the Treasurer can pay with our card. It is such a process..
I did forward the earlier renewal emails to our Treasurer and it never got paid.
I will follow the link and get this paid.
Again so sorry for the repeated emails, you were very quick to respond to us.. -
I can purchase the business plan, do you know what type we had before expired? Or what is best one for our small membership.
-
That was indeed a Business Plan you had before it expired.
It is possible a lower plan may be more to your liking: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
To be able to purchase a lower plan though, we will need to first fully downgrade the former Business Plan site to a Free Plan, which may result in the loss of any content created with plugins (as using plugins requires a Business Plan or higher).
If you do want to go with a lower plan instead, please let us know as confirmation and we’ll get that taken care of.
-
HI. I don’t want to lose any content, just needed to know which business plan is comparable to what expired. Just need website to stay the same. There was a premium one for $25.00 per month ( I think)..
-
Our plans are Free, Personal, Premium, Business, and eCommerce.
This site was on the Business Plan, which is available at either $300/year or $33/month.
You can find a comparison of our plans, and their prices, at https://wordpress.com/pricing/

I did click on Business Plan upgrade and it is asking me this:
Transfer your domain away from your current registrar.
Domain registration and billing will be moved from your current provider to WordPress.com
Manage your domain and site from your WordPress.com dashboard
Extends registration by one year
$18.00 per year
Transfer to WordPress.comWe have already paid for that domain. This sounds like WordPress will then own our domain name and we would pay you?
-
The domain is registered elsewhere, so can either continue to transfer the domain to us, or you can skip that step and just connect it later.
It’s more a personal preference type of thing, really.
Domain Connection allows you to keep the domain registered with your current domain registrar and direct it to your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
A transfer would allow to manage both your site and domain from the same place: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
So, basically, are you an “all of your eggs in one basket” type of person, or “not all of your eggs in one basket”? :)

Hi MacManx.
I’ve been trying to set this up from Register.com as we own the domain name for 3 years.
There chat line says I do it from WordPress
but when I follow the instructions from WordPress it says this:Find the name servers on your domain’s settings page.
Replace all the name servers of your domain to use the following valuesI haven’t found the settings page on Register.com I keep asking the chat line..
-
The domain’s name servers will definitely need to be changed through your domain registrar following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
With that said though, your domain’s name servers are already pointed to us, probably back from when it was previously, and it does appear to be working: https://ewidenver.org/ :)
-
That is what the Chat line said it already points to you. So what do I do now. Just finish the set Up by hitting VERIFY CONNECTION?
-
I clicked on Verify Connection and it says Domain is connected. Can you check for me please…
-
-
OK.. My website content is gone… Where is our website.. All my pages.. I did not want to rebuild our website..
-
I need to make sure that the domain name is connected with the original EWIDenver.org site.. There are two sites now.. I just clicked SWITCH SITES and I found our original site but is the domain name attached to that one..
-
When I click on the link you sent it goes to the “new” site NOT the original site with all our content.. when I do a search for EWIDenver.org and I click on it, it says
WELCOME TO YOUR NEW SITE… Where is my old site.. -
Ah, I see the plan was added to the wrong site, I should have noticed that, sorry!
How about now https://ewidenver.org/ ? :)
Also, since moving the plan removes the payment info, please visit https://wordpress.com/me/purchases to set up auto-renew again.
-
HI there,
So when I click on the link for ewidenver you have listed in your reply it does take me to our old site..
Are you saying I need to pay for it again because I set it up on the wring site? I didn’t know I was doing that OR is this to ensure I have the payments on the right site. -
No, I moved both the plan and domain to the correct site. :)
The only thing you may need to do, if you want this to auto-renew, is to set that up again at https://wordpress.com/me/purchases
