Need to transfer an "expired" domain

    I had a blog hosted on WordPress that I’ve now moved over to Squarespace (needed more control/a store platform). I tried several times at the time I switched to take my domain name with me; I did the “unlock” code and could never get it to work. It was suggested by someone that I just wait for it to expire and then purchase it through a site like godaddy. WordPress tells me that my domain expired yesterday, but the actual company that owns it (Wild West) tells me, and I can confirm this through a WhoIs search, that my domain does not actually expire until March of 2017. I have no idea what to do at this point; I just want to make sure that I own my domain and nobody else can snag it! My squarespace site is still working as of this morning.
