Need to transfer my blog to a different host

I need to move my blog from WordPress because I need to be able to edit the site’s HTML. I’m having difficulty backing up the database and just the whole process in general.
Can someone explain to me what I need to do in layman’s terms? I would greatly appreciate it.

What HTML do you need to edit? If you are trying to verify your site with Google’s Webmaster Tools, the instructions can be found here

I was told being hosted by WordPress would not allow me to add widgets and advertising for Yardbarker.com in order to partner with them, so whatever I need to do to achieve that is what I’m looking for.

WordPress.COM has a ton of Widgets, they have taken many of the most popular Plug-in’s and made them Widgets to make life easier for all here.
You ads however mean you need to self host: http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/ – as you are not allowed to put your own adds here.
WordPress.ORG is the keeper of the self hosted software and has a how to get started guide. http://wordpress.org/support/

As auxclass has posted the relevant links you will now be aware that there is no advertising allowed on free hosted wordpress.COM blogs and that means you will require a wordpress.ORG install and a web host.
Below are helpful links for hiring web host and setting WordPress.or, uploading a theme and plugins, prior to doing your exporting your blog content and Links (blogroll) from your existing WordPress.com blog and importing them into your new WordPress.com install.

That file will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
Your Links (blogroll) must be separately exported and there are two methods you can choose from. The instructions found here are for exporting your Links (blogroll) out of your WordPress.com blog and importing it into your WordPress.com install > http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/import-export-links/

Third party advertising isn’t allowed under the WordPress.com TOS, but you should really run that by Staff, who unfortunately are away until the 16th. I’ve added a tag here in the hopes that they will stop in to answer your question.
But regardless, if your intention is to leave WordPress.com to self-host your blog, you can export your content via the instructions I linked to above.

To move your content, you should export a backup file from the Tools -> Export page in your blog (which has already been mentioned in this thread).

One more question. I’ve successfully transferred the domain registrar, do I stil need to export my files out of WordPress?

I am going to move too, since Cutline has been replaced by a vastly inferior theme.
Moving content looks easy. But how about images? I have over 1,000 images. Can I move those too?
