Need to Update Phone Number for Authentication

Hi, I have a new phone number with no access to my old phone number, and I can’t log in to my WP account.
How do I get around this to change the number on the two-step verification without the backup codes?

Hey there @feetforbrains, if you don’t have backup codes, you’ll need to use the account recovery form.
My recommendation:
- Since you have a purchase on this account, you can use a transaction ID to regain access using the secure form mentioned here.
- Please watch the form for any messages. Sometimes in cases like this, the form will show a message inviting you to reset the password by email, or submit the form again if you still need help. The password isn’t the issue here, so you’ll want to re-submit.
- If you’re unable to get through that way, send all of the same information from the form via email instead, using
passwordhelp@wordpress.com.

I attempted to complete the account recovery form, got promoted to change my password, and am now completely unable to log into my account. Additionally, the Account Recovery Form does not work. When attempting to use it and a valid receipt number I always get the following message.

Ultimately, I need to update my phone number with WordPress to complete 2FA and log in to change my phone number. I no longer have access to this number and can’t regain access to this number.

If I try to use my user name instead of email address it gives me the following error message.
“The receipt does not appear to be valid.”

It doesn’t look like that could be the right information required there.
Would be able to locate a transaction ID, as per these steps here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/billing-history/#retrieving-a-transaction-id
The ID itself, should resemble something like this:

I was providing the receipt number (because the form says it will work). I’ve provided the transaction number and it worked.
