Need urgent help unmapping a domain
-
Hello, I have mapped the domain greystoneco.ca to wordpress yesterday but it was initially created with netfirms and now my clients email won’t work. This is completely my fault. I am trying to redirect the site to wordpress while leaving his email on netfirms. I changed the DNS back to the netfirms dns just now, but on wordpress it seems that it still is handled by wordpress. If I were to just delete the email MX from wordpress would that allow the email to be access on netfirms again?
Thanks!

@natonthecoast, changing the name servers only back to the old ones may or may not solve the problem (it will depend on how they were setup before and whether previously saved MX records are still on file). What you really need to do is make sure the MX records are setup properly according to the email provider’s requirements on the service wherever the name servers are currently pointed to. Either way though, the first step will be to find out what those MX records need to be.
Once you know what MX records are needed, you can use the domain manager to set them up again.
What domain manager you use will depend on where the name servers are pointed to. For example, when the name servers are set to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM, and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM then you can use the WordPress.com domain manager to add custom DNS records (MX records) to make the email work again:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/#adding-custom-dns-recordsEach DNS change can take time to propagate, so you may need to be patient each time you make a change to let the changes go through.
