Need video of how to set up multiple portfolios ?or projects? on static home page.
-
I want to put multiple projects on the static front page but I get the terms portfolio, project and gallery mixed up. I want each project to have a feature photo and some text, so that when it is highlighted, the gallery or whatever of photos opens up. I want 3 columns of projects–I have about 6 or 7 right now that I want to make, for a max of 9. Here is my front page https://wordpress.com/block-editor/page/quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/2
Right now I have a separate portfolio page with the projects appearing one above the other rather than side by side, several rows. https://wordpress.com/block-editor/page/quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/126
I am also working on clearing my cache (another post) so I can see all editing tools on blocks and to remove blocks as needed. I will work with that post for the cache issue, so this post will concentrate on the portfolio issue.
The look I want is similar to the demo site for Rebalance, my theme.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I want to put multiple projects on the static front page but I get the terms portfolio, project and gallery mixed up.
I was unable to find a relevant WordPress.com video, but will try to help you find the appropriate support pages and to answer some of your questions.
A portfolio project is a type of content similar to but distinct from a post. A portfolio is a page that displays a group of portfolio projects. See the Portfolios support page to learn more about portfolios and portfolio projects.
A gallery is not a content type like a post, page, or portfolio project. It is a feature consisting of groups of images that may be used in any content type. See the Galleries and Slideshows support page to learn about galleries.
I want each project to have a feature photo and some text, so that when it is highlighted, the gallery or whatever of photos opens up.
A page with the portfolio page template assigned will display a grid of links to the individual projects. Each item in the grid includes the following links:
1. a featured image if one is set, linked to the project — See the Featured Images support page for relevant information and instructions.
2. project title, linked to the project
3. project types assigned to that project, each linked to the corresponding project type archive pageand some text
Text for each project can’t be included in a portfolio grid, unless you use Portfolio Shortcode, customized to display content (with the “display_content” attribute included in the shortcode).Note that the links included in your support request are to administrative pages and consequently can’t be reached by volunteers such as myself. Here are the URLs to some of your pages:
1. front page — https://quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/
2. static page titled “Portfolio” — https://quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/portfolio-2/), which features a collection of galleries
3. in-built portfolio archive page — https://quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/portfolio. -
The look I want is similar to the demo site for Rebalance, my theme.
The homepage of the Rebalance demo displays a grid of posts. That’s why each item in the grid may contain an excerpt. The demo’s Portfolio Page Template page shows what you can expect to see on a page with that template assigned, given that there are multiple published projects, each with a featured image and at least one project type assigned.

OK, I am making a bit of progress. I have created two projects , Personalities and Just for Fun, given them a feature photo, added project types that will group photos by subject. front page — https://quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/
However, I don’t see what to do to add the rest of the photos to each project.
There is another static page titled Portfolios that I will probably delete later if I get this front page to work properly.
Also, somewhere, is another project that I thought was on the front page, called The Land ,,,,, or Landscapes, forget which. I had several photos and a feature photo that I could see on the edit page but did not show up when I saved and previewed.
Goals:
1 Add the rest of the photos to Personalities and Just for Fun
2 Find Landscape project and get it to show up on the front page called HomePlace.
3 Order the projects the way I want them, not just in the order I created them. I always want Landscapes to be first. Thanks so much for your help!

However, I don’t see what to do to add the rest of the photos to each project.
A project may include a gallery of images, or even multiple galleries, just as your page titled “Portfolio” does.
2 Find Landscape project and get it to show up on the front page called HomePlace
All projects, draft and published, may be found at My Site(s) > Site > Portfolio.
3 Order the projects the way I want them, not just in the order I created them. I always want Landscapes to be first.
On most themes projects will be displayed on the in-built portfolio page, and (if applicable) a page with the portfolio page template assigned, in reverse-chronological order. So you may change the order by altering one or more of the projects’ publish dates. This worked on my test site with Rebalance applied.
-
You may also hide the featured images on projects, if you choose to, by unchecking the box labeled “Display on single projects” at Customize > Content Options > Featured Images.

1. I created these two projects, gave titles and selected feature photos before I actually chose the photos to be in the projects. Now I don’t see how to add them. I have studied the WP Portfolio support link given elsewhere. Do I need to delete what I have done on Personalities and Just for Fun and start over?
2. I found the landscape project, but I don’t know how to link it so it shows up with the other projects. All these pages are published, hope these links allow you to get to them. HomePlace page has the featured photo for 2 projects, I want to get the landscape project below onto this page. https://quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/
This is “floating” landscape project that needs to be linked to HomePlace https://wordpress.com/block-editor/page/quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/2
3. Thanks–I thought I remembered there was a way to order projects by changing the dates. When I get the portfolio projects done, I will set the dates.

Do I need to delete what I have done on Personalities and Just for Fun and start over?
No. The content of a project is essential the same as that of a page. If you want to display a gallery in a project, then you create a gallery in the project editor, just as you would in a page editor.
This is “floating” landscape project that needs to be linked to HomePlace https://wordpress.com/block-editor/page/quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/2
That’s the URL of the block editor of a static page, not the the editor of a WordPress.com project. Again I can’t see it, because it’s an administrative page and I’m not a staff member. You may create a project with the same content as that page. Your homepage presumably has the portfolio page template assigned to it. It will automatically display all published projects. You can’t get something else in there by linking to it.

Well, no wonder! I thought I was making a project! I’ll do the landscape project from scratch on home and see how it goes.
And thanks for clueing me in to making the block on the portfolio page a gallery, if I understood you correctly. For some reason, I thought there was a separate way to load the pictures into a project.
Thanks again! I will try tomorrow when I’m not so tired!

Well, some people use the term “project” to mean the same as “piece” or “work,” a single finished product. So it’s not uncommon for someone to include just one photograph or work of art in each WordPress.com “project.” However, the word “project” needn’t be limited to this interpretation.

I am still having problems. The two projects I mentioned, Personalities and Just for Fun, were created from the WP Portfolio button. When I tap that button, I can see these two as separate listings. When I choose one of them, I go to the page where I see the title and featured photo, but there is no add media button. The url to see the edit page is
The dropdown menu for a highlighted block does not include anything media or gallery sounding. If I move off that block, the menu changes but still dont see anything about adding a gallery. You said you are not able to view admin pages, Should I be sending another kind of url?
-
Should I be sending another kind of url?
Yes, ordinarily you should give the URL of the public page, project, etc., rather than the URL of the corresponding editor, because most of the folks responding to forum topics are volunteers who can’t view administrative pages on others sites.
The url to see the edit page is
https://quiltingtheland.wordpress.com/portfolio/personalities/That’s the publicly visible page, not an editor.
When I choose one of them, I go to the page where I see the title and featured photo, but there is no add media button.
At My Site > Site > Portfolio, you’ll see the projects listed on the right side of the page. In that list, the editor for any project is opened by clicking the three-dot icon at the far-right of the project title and selecting the edit option from the menu.
The dropdown menu for a highlighted block does not include anything media or gallery sounding.
The Gallery Block support page might be helpful, and support pages for all of the blocks in the WordPress Editor are listed here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/. However, I’m not that familiar with the block editor, since I still happily use the old wp-admin editor, so I’ve called for staff attention to the topic. Staff will respond here regarding this and other issues that you might be encountering.

This is getting beyond my ability to express what I am seeing. It would be helpful for a staff member to be able to look at my editing pages.
What I see when I am in editing mode is very different (different picture) from the view page mode. And depending on how I look at Homeplace (either by choosing from pages, where I see the Mogollon Rim art quilt plus other photos in its gallery, or from the project edit page to view site, where I see two project featured photos and titles, I am confused about how I got here and how to get to where I want.
Goal: Seeing all three projects visible on the public homeplace page, plus photos and the ability to add photos to all three projects. Right now, I can only add pictures to the Mogollon Rim project/gallery.

What I see when I am in editing mode is very different (different picture) from the view page mode.
When I edit the page you’re referring to, it matches what I see on the site, so I’m not sure what you mean by that.
Please use https://snipboard.io to provide a screenshot of what you’re referring to.
The dropdown menu for a highlighted block does not include anything media or gallery sounding.
Block menus generally have settings for just the block itself. If you want a gallery, you have to use a gallery block.
I recommend reviewing https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/ for working with blocks.

https://snipboard.io/jXAi7t.jpg This is the HomePlace image I see with the two images which you have already seen.
The instructions dont say how to add a second image. I have alt prtscr and control V’d and successfully pasted in the first image, but nothing pastes onto the shipboard screen when I do the same thing with the second screen shot.
What do I do now to get these pages to you?
-
Will left click ‘Remove Overlay’ remove the first screenshot and allow a second one to be pasted in?
I see there is a ‘Your Images’ tab where screen shots are stored. If I close out snipboard, do I have to do anything to access my shots when I open snipboard again?
I appreciate your help, MacManx!

I think I have found a work around re: my question about multiple shots on snipboard. Not pretty though.
Top of page, sent earlier, so we have everything in one post. https://snipboard.io/jXAi7t.jpg
I opened a new tab for snipboard and pasted in the second screenshot with this address, https://snipboard.io/F9rpoL.jpg
(I now have two Snipboard tabs open.)This is the view when I click the edit button on the Personalities featured image. (The same thing happens with the Just for fun image, but I will just work with Personalities.) I don’t see anything that allows me to add pictures.
Here is a different shot further down the edit page.
snipboard.io/nMzcBY.jpg This shows the middle part of the right menu area. Here is the bottom part of the same Personalities project menu. https://snipboard.io/5bMNTa.jpg
and here is the Admin page with the projects area selected.

************
Here is the Admin page looking at the list of pages: HomePlace is my home page, but not what is seen when I go to what should be the home page of the website.
https://snipboard.io/ZlNSov.jpg (top) and https://snipboard.io/XmusME.jpg (bottom)Note the page title HomePlace, which is not seen when looking at the two projects’ public site that I screen shotted first on this post. They are supposed to be on HomePlace too.
Whew! This is long. Hope I was organized in how I provided screenshots of what I see.
Thanks again!
