Needing clarification on acceptable affiliate links & ads?

    I love love love WordPress.com. I used to blog here alot and want to return. I’ve used WordPress software to self host and hated it. Self hosting is too much trouble. Blogger isn’t nearly as good as WordPress and squarespace is too expensive. I want to come back to blogging here at WordPress.com and am considering the $99 a year package of upgrades. The only thing holding me back is the ambiguity of what kind of advertising/linking is allowed at WordPress.com. I think for a rock solid answer I need to speak directly to staff but can’t seem to find a link to do so, so here I am at the community. Anyway, to clarify, I am wanting to create a real blog with REAL content (lifestyle, dieting, mommy, crafting, basically everything going on in my life that might interest others). I design tshirts through cafepress and zazzle and sell my photographs through other sites. I read a lot & plan to host book discussions. I’m writing a self paced ecourse and hope to write a book (self publish). So here are my questions:

    Can I create a page as part of my blog that features my tshirts & photos & etsy products with links to the sites I sell them through, or put links to products I’ve created in my sidebar?

    Can I use amazon affiliate links in my blog posts or sidebar when discussing books I am reading or products I use and want to recommend?

    Can I advertise my own books or ecourses?

    I belong to several women’s groups and buy a lot of products from a couple of etsy & boutique shops which all gave me affiliate status, can I put buttons in my sidebar that link to those groups/shops since I will be discussing them a lot in my blog?

    As I said, I’m a real blogger. I’m not out to create a site with a thousand links and no content. I just want to be able to advertise my own products and products/groups I believe in and will be talking about often in my blog. If anyone can send me a link to how I can reach support staff for clarification I’d appreciate it. I don’t want to waste $99 for upgrades, spend a ton of hours building my blog & then end up with it suspended. Thanks!

    I flagged this for staff responses. It is entirely likely, though, that you will not be able to use links in your sidebar.

    As long as you’re selling your own products, you can link to them, but the amazon affiliate links need to be used sparingly within posts and not a feature of your blog or sidebar.
