Needing detailed width and height image specs for the Twenty Fourteen theme

  Hi everyone-

  I visited these links:

  …and both pages give incomplete specs for image dimensions (with the exception of the Twenty Fourteen theme page… it gives the width and height specs for the header image- 1260 x 240 pixels)

  Here are the quick specs the theme page gives:

  Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels)

  1.The main column width is 474. (That’s clear)

  2.Featured images work best with images that are least 1038 wide. (But how tall? Plus, what is the pixel area that is blocked out in the “full width” featured image, (in the 6 image slider) and the featured images that are 672 pixels?)

  3.The primary sidebar (left) width is 162. (That’s clear)

  4.The secondary “content” sidebar (right) width is 306. (That’s clear)

  5.Widgets in the footer widget area are 255 wide. (That’s clear)

  6.The header image size is 1260 wide and 240 high. (That’s clear)

  7.Single image pages are full-width and 810 wide. (I’m a bit confused as to what this explains… #2 says that featured images are best at 1038 wide)

  Any clarification would help greatly, so I can be mindful of how to create images for the future!

  The slider in the demo contains featured images which are 1200 X 666 (ratio = 1.8018 : 1). On my 12″ X 9″ monitor they display at 666 X 454 (ratio = 1.8106 : 1) which is quite close to the same ratio as the full size images. The corresponding height for an image 1038 pixels wide would be about 576 pixels. Images larger than 1200 X 666 may be both scaled and cropped.

  I’m sure you can calculate this figure yourself. It can be done with copy and paste in Windows paint, for example.

  I think they’re referring to images displayed on attachment pages, for example the following attachment page displaying an image from a gallery in the demo: https://twentyfourteendemo.wordpress.com/?attachment_id=221. I measured it at roughly 810 pixels.

  I should have mentioned that 666 X 454 was an estimate based upon a hasty screen shot, cut and pasted into Windows paint. The ratios may be even closer to identical.
